Arnside Railway Viaduct is a 51 span structure carrying the Carnforth and Whitehaven Line over the estuary of the River Kent in Cumbria UK.
Originally constructed in 1856 as a single line viaduct, it was the the first viaduct in the country to use water jets in the construction of the footings for the piers. The structure was extended to twin track in 1863 it was opened 1857 by the Ulverston and Lancaster Railway, which was taken over by the Furness Railway 26 May 1862. At the height of the First World War in 1915 the viaduct was rebuilt so it could carry the heavy munitions trains coming from Barrow south and onwards to the front line.

It was repaired at a cost of £11m in 2011  with the renewal of the entire 51 span superstructure with prefabricated deck girder units (each averaging 24 tonnes in weight), together with the replacement of the jointed track with continuous rails directly fastened to the deck.

The viaduct is located in a site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) within a Protected National Park, which is also an area of outstanding natural beauty (AONB)

Leica M8 using Capture One with Zeiss ZM 50mm f2 Planar base iso @f8 UV/IR filter, usually I leave it off for B/W but I was primarily shooting with colour intent.
