Lovely photos everyone!

This photo was the first photo I was ever invited to exhibit at a meeting in April in Philadelphia.  Will always have a great bond with it and feels it represents my style and ethos well.

Hello mnutzer,

very nice.

Could you describe your BW-workflow (with m8raw2dng) - the results are stunnung.

Gerne auch auf deutsch;-)

Best,

Jens

Since this is an international thread, I'll try my best in English🙂.
About the m8raw2dng process of the Leica M8 you can read here at the forum explanations of the programmer himself:
www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/216705-m8raw2dng-tool-to-convert-leica-m8-raw-files-to-dng

Leica also compresses inside the M8 DNGs to 10.6 MB in 8-bit mode, although the processor works like the M9 in 14-bit mode.
Leica decided at that time in order to make the storage time shorter and to be able to use the smaller storage capacity of the then usual memory cards for more photos.
For testing and service purposes, the M8 has an internal working mode, recording in 14-bit mode with uncompressed capacity of 21.2 MB per RAW.
This working mode can only be reached via a special "push-button dance", which unfortunately can not be saved and therefore has to be repeated each time the M8 is switched on.
For image processing programs to be able reading the RAWs out of the M8, they must be processed into DNGs together with the JPGs, which are always recorded in parallel, at the special m8raw2dng droplet.

In Photoshop, I set the saturation of all color channels of the DNG to zero to a black and white photo, in order to emphasize or weaken gray values via the luminance.
Otherwise, the usual treatment with adjustment of the blacks and whites in the predetermined areas within the warning signals including any increase in presence.
If necessary I add even some use of the mist filter and slight sharpening.
All in all a tedious process of difficult conditions at the recording, the more complicated conversion into a DNG and individual editing in Photoshop.
I hope to be able to switch to an M10-P sometime to get faster and more flexible especially for shooting at lower light.
