IWC Doppel Posted April 28, 2016 Share #41 Posted April 28, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Shortly? Ask Nikon to design the shutter and sensor. And give it a proper name. Not simply calling it a M and then specifying that it's a "typ 4357432". That's so lame. Neil, your ability to buy the latest Nikon then Leica, then whoever I can't keep up tbh, I'll make a mental note your in the 'out' of Leica camp right now...... I for one don't mind what they call it after the letter M I wish we were talking M10 to be honest and Monochrom 1 and
Advertisement Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 Hi IWC Doppel, Take a look here Type 246 back to original MM. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Morry Posted April 28, 2016 Share #42 Posted April 28, 2016 Went back from M246 to MM1(used), then now back to 246 again due to the sensor problem. Feeling-wise I love MM1(as well as M9) much more because it is a kind of classic. Lighter, more analogue(immature as digital camera in terms of speed and UI), last one with the illumination window, and etc. It may be funny but all of those things make MM1 somehow special. I mean when MM3 comes out in future I will, quite surely, want to upgrade from M246 to MM3, but in case of MM1 that should be a keeper. On the other hand, to use LV on M246 is sometimes effective and does open up extra opportunity to take some pics those wouldn't be possible without LV. So for me the best thing would be to use the newest MM while keeping MM1 in order to go back to basics. (but I don't have MM1 as of now )
wilfredo Posted May 9, 2016 Share #43 Posted May 9, 2016 I continue to enjoy the MM as it was first delivered to the world, and actually dread the fact that it is the last of its kind. I've shared these feelings before, and I suspect it's the last Leica camera I will ever purchase (CMOS just doesn't do it for me). It really is a matter of esthetics, but it's already been established that some don't see any difference in the feel of the image, so for those people I don't think holding onto the original MM makes any real sense, if they prefer the upgrades on the newer MM. www.ReligionIsGarbage.com
tom0511 Posted May 25, 2016 Share #44 Posted May 25, 2016 The more silent shutter, the better battery, weather sealing and faster operation are all good reasons for me to prefer the M246. I dont miss the MM1, even though it is a great camera as well.
Printmaker Posted May 31, 2016 Share #45 Posted May 31, 2016 I've just never been tempted by the M (240) or MM (246). Sure, the newer cameras are quieter and have better frame lines but I've never been bothered by the sound or the lines in my M9 and MM. Battery? Well I think I've only exhausted a battery once during a shoot and always have a pair of spares with me anyway. Video is a no go as it is just easier to shoot with my Olympus. Sensor? Well, my M9 got a new one 2 years ago and the MM has been trouble free so far. If either need another sensor, well Leica has that covered. About the only reason to upgrade from M9/MM would be a M 360 (36 mp) that shoots butter smooth files at ISO 3600. I'll happily shoot my M9 and MM until Leica gets these cameras into production. IWC Doppel Posted June 4, 2016 Share #46 Posted June 4, 2016 I'm 100% in agreement with you The only thing I'll add is that seeing professional prints on the walls of a Leica store of the MM and M9 when they were the best Leica offered (excluding the S2) from the world of digital is still etched in my mind. It's a reminder to shoot more, learn more and appreciate that today's old kit is still quite remarkable And more than good enough for me !
