AlanJW Posted January 6, 2016 Share #1 Posted January 6, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) I received my SL this afternoon and have been experimenting with the 24-90, some M lenses, and a 23mm Summicron T that I picked up in near new condition. However, the T lens needs a firmware update to work on the SL (or so says the SL screen when I turn it on). My understanding is that T lens firmware is distributed as part of T camera firmware, and I do not have a T. Is there a way to update the lens' firmware on the SL? I have tried with T firmware on an SD card to no avail. I assume I could send it in to Leica (US), but anyone know of another way?
Advertisement Posted January 6, 2016 Posted January 6, 2016 Hi AlanJW, Take a look here T Lenses on SL. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Budfox Posted January 6, 2016 Share #2 Posted January 6, 2016 You have to attach to a T camera with up to date firmware, it should then happen automatically. Can't be done via the SL at this stage. Try your friendly local Leica dealer to see if they will oblige.
ramarren Posted January 6, 2016 Share #3 Posted January 6, 2016 A dealer should be able to help you. You need a T body.
rfunnell Posted January 8, 2016 Share #4 Posted January 8, 2016 Does anyone know what the update in firmware for the Summicron-T 23 changes are ? Will have to visit my friendly Leica dealership for an update .
ramarren Posted January 8, 2016 Share #5 Posted January 8, 2016 Does anyone know what the update in firmware for the Summicron-T 23 changes are ? Will have to visit my friendly Leica dealership for an update . The fw update probably just adds some bits to allow the SL control signals to be recognized properly.
AlanJW Posted January 8, 2016 Author Share #6 Posted January 8, 2016 My dealer has no T's. I am going to have to send it in or see if the Leica store in NY will do it.
brill64 Posted February 3, 2016 Share #7 Posted February 3, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) any luck? perhaps you could try to search/message/post on t forum a t-owner here & in your local area to assist you with this?
AlanJW Posted February 3, 2016 Author Share #8 Posted February 3, 2016 any luck? perhaps you could try to search/message/post on t forum a t-owner here & in your local area to assist you with this? Yes. I went over to Leica US in New Jersey, about an hour from where I live, and they did it right there. The lens works nicely on e SL for times when 10mp is adequate.

AlanJW Posted February 5, 2016 Author Share #10 Posted February 5, 2016 Good news! What do you think of the lens? How does it look on the SL? The lens looks nice, and makes for a small, lightweight, AF capable and easily manageable package. But expectations for that lens are different. Comparing the results from the 23mm Summicron at 10mp and the 35mm Summilux at 24mp, it was fairly easy to tell the difference as the 23 is not in the same class as the 35 (it is also 1/2 the price) but it is a good lens nevertheless. I am not expecting to use it for serious stuff but for quick family snaps for images to be sent around by email it is more than enough. My quick comparison was just looking at 100% on my screen. I have not done any prints, though I think 4 x 6's from my little Selphy will be fine, maybe even an occasional 8 x 10, but I haven't tried yet.
Jared Posted February 6, 2016 Share #11 Posted February 6, 2016 I don't own the 23mm, but I, too, use a "T" lens as my walking around lens--the 18-56. It balances well, is extremely responsive, and 10 megapixels is more than just "enough for 4x6". It can comfortably handle 8x 12, and I wouldn't even worry about a 13x19 too much. We worry way too much about megapixel count in digital photography. - Jared
stevelap Posted February 8, 2016 Share #12 Posted February 8, 2016 Me too, T 18-56 for the time being, R primes when the Leica R-L adaptor is available (June/July I've heard).
G. van Asch Posted February 8, 2016 Share #13 Posted February 8, 2016 I am waiting to see how the new TL 35mm 1.4 will be? Supposed to come in march. If that's not a lightweight easy lens it will be the SL 50mm 1.4 but than I have to wait until the end of the year, Gerjan
Guest Posted February 14, 2016 Share #14 Posted February 14, 2016 I have the T system, but I tested the SL with the 18-56 T zoom, and it felt śo right´ I don´t know how long I will last before I give in!!
