Eating a green apricot.  The tree is now netted to keep the myriad of wildlife away.

They are large birds with an extremely piercing call which hurts the ears.

Sometimes 6-8 will come to our birdfeeder...their antics are hilarious.

Dave,

This is a very fine cockatoo portrait! You have captured the personality of the bird so well. It's excellent!

As we are out in the country we have a large mob (probably numbered in the hundreds) of these chaps as permanent residents, even more join them when there's seasonal grass or crop seed available in the paddocks, the word spreads magically and they turn up.....

perhaps even coming from your garden.

As you note they are a very noisy bird, particularly for half an hour or so every morning and evening....their perching and un-perching hour is their social time of day....after long exposure you actually become inured to their cacophony and eventually you find you don't even

really hear them anymore, however it's amusing to see the reaction of any uninitiated visitors as they attempt to hold a 'civilised' conversation against the screeching.

And of course then there's the issue of a cockatoo's extraordinarily destructive habits, times a hundred........
