Hello to everybody: this is my first post here and I hope not to have broken any rule.
I simply want to say that last Monday I received my Leica SL with the firmware 1.2 installed.

Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here…

I do not know what really changed, but now, when I use my M lenses, I can activate the magnification by pressing the joystick button with my right thumb; I can now also activate the exposure compensation quickly: I have assigned this function to the FN button on the front of the camera. It seems to me that these features were not present in the previous firmware.

Does anyone have more precise information about the new firmware?

Thank you and ciao from Italy!

Welcome to the forum.

And now.......

Whooo hooo!

The focus magnification element is new, and good.

If exposure compensation still has to be activated by a button press then no, that is not new. I already have it assigned to the TR button. If it can be activated simply by turning the rear wheel, then that is new.

Edit: but I can't see this new firmware available for download yet  :(

No, you still need to press a button first, then turning the rear wheel.

Hello. The new firmware will be available from December 14th. Ciao

If already in new cameras...why the wait?

I'm pretty sure Leica can deploy an update to their production line faster than their distributors can receive, deploy the software to their servers, and then test the systems before opening access to the public.

There is a NDA in force regarding the firmware update, so my dealer would not share any details.  I showed him this thread, he acknowledged the update is coming.  He said Leica was debating internally whether to assign the focus magnification to the joy stick or the front button.  I'm glad to see see the joy stick won - that seems so much more logical.  My name is back on the waiting list :)

seriously? I can add it to the site in 5 minutes max. The infrastructure for downloading FW is already in place.

Only problem with that is it's going to mess up my AE Lock assignment, and I don't know whether that is reassignable anywhere else... The TR button would have been my choice, moving the Review button to BL.

No matter where it goes, it will mean a new "try and test" episode. Just when I was getting pretty comfortable with my config.  ;)

Are you running a largish, multinational company with seven or eight independent regional distributors?

It is rather unusual to share information like this through the dealer network.

If their procedures are anything like my company's procedures, the central office distributes the files to the independents, then each of them prepares their websites, then they all make them available at a coordinated date and time.

That's how how it works with large companies that run operations through distributors on a regional basis, in general. They don't just stick files on a website in one place.

This is how Sony/Canon etc. do it. However I think Leica only has one main site from which you can download software. Certainly Leica doesn't even have an Australian web site at all.
