These were with the CV15III on the SL on the same trip as the above post, but taken nearby at the Alabama Hills (near Lone Pine, CA). This lens holds up much better in the corners for me than the 10 (or the 12 that I had tried earlier), without cropping out the corners.

I am very close to purchasing the 15 for use with my M-P 240. Your images help.

I used a new CV10 on my SL for this pic at Bad Water in Death Valley recently. I find that the near corners are more smeared than I would like, even shooting at "optimal" f stops (f/8 or 11) and focusing on those corners. Tremendous DOF though :). It seemed to be best when cropped square. A year or so ago, I had the CV12 but returned it due to soft corners, but will keep this one due to unique FL (I am much happier with the CV15III though, see next post).

- I think that, bearing in mind the form factor and the unprecedented focal length of 10 mm for a 35 mm FF, they did an amazing engineering job for this lens to work at all.

- It is truly rectilinear and virtually distortion free.

- I agree that corner softness is a 'weak point', however they had to compromise somewhere with this extreme lens.

- Corner softness is one of the reasons why I often do not correct for vignetting in LR, because it makes the corner softness less evident. Furthermore, vignetting helps to 'draw the viewer in' with some shots.

- You just have to live with some pictorial ideas not working because of the combination of corner softness and 0.5 m minimal focussing distance (sounds near, but with this lens evrything gets very tiny very fast).

For me, the Hyper Wide 10 mm definitely is a keeper. It is challenging to master but loads of fun and it can deliver images that no other lens can.

Of course, this, as most things here, is utterly subjective :)

certainly agree is a phenomenal lens for what it can do, especially for the price! Huge difference compared to 18SEM and even CV15. Objects definitely get tiny very quickly, from 11,043 ft Telescope Peak down to -282 ft, this shows one of the largest escarpments in North America (the salt flat extends just a couple of miles further from where this was taken). When shooting in the dark predawn, I didn't realize I was getting tripod legs in pic; this was taken very close to ground with tripod leaning way over to get the legs out of the frame.

I admit to not being a landscaper. I shoot mostly handheld. Without the Viso20, I find the leading lines very hard to control with this lens on my M10. An additional advantage of the Viso is that the exposure preview will show my feet even in dim light ;) Not having any body parts intruding into a handheld picture in portrait orientation calls for some acrobatics...

You could say that they are clichéd. I would not argue with that. But they were fun.

I can imagine how photographers who employ their UWAs to capture harmonious vistas of breathtaking landscapes, might find my pictures abominable. However, I enjoy the experimental spirit that the Heliar 10 inavriably induces in me.

Sometimes it does work, sometimes it does not...

I quite agree.  I think the enjoyment is in experimenting with this impressive lens at the moment.  More considered use will happen when I've understood how it performs.

Pete.
