I don’t often take the SL Summilux 50mm out, because it is so big and slow to focus, but it is both sharp and renders exquisitely.  Although it is clearly optimised for portraits, landscapes benefit too. (It is a flat, dull day, so apologies to those that like their post processing subtle.)

Blimey. I loved my first micro NIKKOR, but it was f2.8 and had to be sent back because of the common excess greasing problem.

I tested a lot of different lenses on the SL, many with unique and fascinating characteristics (ways of drawing the image).  I have yet to try a mid-range manual-focus lens that is sharper and more precise than the Micro-Nikkor (I haven't tried any of the Leica Macro-Elmar or Elmarits).  It's not just the resolution but something about the absolute flatness of the field (designed for document-copying amongst other things) that seems to work exceptionally well on the SL sensor.  Mine is the old one, f/3.5.  Stunning.

An engaging monochrome picture, John.  Might I respectfully suggest "The Poppy in the Barley" as a catchy title? 🙂

Pete.
