Besides this beautiful dome Königslutter is also part of one of the darkest times of german history- right next to the Kaiserdom exists a building complex and home of  a nowadays (forensic) psychiatry. In former times this "institute" was part of the socalled "Aktion T4"  (please follow the link....) including involuntary euthanasia,  Several reasons have been suggested for the killings, including eugenics, compassion, reducing suffering, racial hygiene and saving money (!)  -

The monument acts as a reminder of the past -->

Thank you for sharing the Wiki article on Aktion T4.  Just stunning with so many acquiescing to and participating in the monstrosity of the project. Rob

Many years ago, I took my then 8 year old youngest son to Patriots' Day on the Greens of Lexington and Concord. We met an "actor" whose ancestor 6 generations earlier was the first colonist to die at Lexington. He and his brother (who, ironically, live in Lexington Kentucky) went back every year to pay homage to their ancestor and the extraordinary event. Lexington/Concord really is sacred land. When I've taken my classes to the Minuteman Memorial and we read "The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere," I can't help but tear up. This is the birthplace of Western democracy. May it be celebrated forever.
