You have so many good pictures of birds...

It can't be luck.  You must be a man of great patience.  And skill of course :-)

This Blacked-naped Oriole flew into my backyard this evening. I aimed my SL & APO90-280mm at it only was able to trigger the shutter release without time to even bring the viewfinder up to my eye level. All the work was done by the AF system alone. Critically I would want the shot to be better but I decide to share it with all. Now that I have learned and understand the camera and lens better, I have grown to like it alot more.

Beautiful! (and hard to match with a manual focussing lens...)

So you think every camera/lens have the same bokeh, same CA, same reflections inside etc...lol

Clue was in the word 'composition' which has nothing to do with any of the variables you reference.

If you think the way a lens performs (other than focal length) has anything to do with artistic merit of the final composition then you're just a gear freak, not a photographer.

A bit harsh, don't you think, Greg?

Actually, I think "composition, in it's wider sense, is more than just framing of the subject - it's also selection of depth of field, and I do think that lens selection has an impact on artistic merit - quality of out of focus areas, colour rendition (to a degree) and how the lens handles flare, vignetting ...

If that makes me a gear freak, that's okay, but I do think about these things as I decide which lens to use, or how the lens I have will impact on the final image.

50SL told me it was focussed, peaking said it was in focus... evidently it was not.. I tried to recover what I Thought was a lovely scene though with that 'I've got an old camera that doesn't focus properly but has character' look
