How I remember my lenses

I do like to keep track of which lenses I'm using on my M8's.  With a variety of lens manufacturers and constant changes, it becomes a challenge with uncoded lenses.

So I do this...each time I change a lens.  Then sync enter those image details into LR's "User Comments" EXIF data.

This allows sorting in LR.

Might be useful hint for someone?

Another way to do this: On M9 and M-P, I manually code my uncoded lenses and have used the User Setups to record the configs for each lens. So when I change lenses I immediately change the user config to match. The paired Leica lens is thus coded into the EXIF and it's easy to change the EXIF data at any time afterwards to list the correct lens.

Thanks for the comment ramarrenThat methodology is not available to M8 owners.

So taking a quick photo of your latest lens change, on any paper scrap if in the field, keeps the information in-camera.  There are other programs too, of course, which allow data to be added to the EXIF.

A notebook and pen can be used, noting the lens image number, but I find this easier, and the lens info is held with the images.

I know it's a bit low-brow, but it works well for me, and perhaps others.

I usually don't use more than two or three uncoded lenses on a day.

I made it a habit to always shoot a dark frame when changing lenses so I see in a series of shots when I changed lenses.

I can usually remember which series of shots I did with which lens.

All my photograph are managed with Lightroom.

When ingesting shots, the first thing I do is to keyword the photographs with the lens used.

After a while all of my lenses are saved as keywords, so I just need to type in the focal length and all lenses of that focal length show up in a list from which I simply select the proper lens.
