Portraits and the Q's 28mm lens

Recommended Posts

completely replaced my 35mm for portraits. Before the Q i was already loving the 28mm with my Nikon Df and 28mm 2.8. Now with the Q i love it even more with the 1.7 aperture :)

I shoot a lot of portraits at 28mm knowing that I will crop them in post.  Sometimes I'll set the 50mm zoom lines knowing that I have room to spare.  And the 10 meg portion of the DNG is fantastic... better than the original 8~12 meg pro digitals of yesterday!

For straight up portraits, not environmental portraits, I don't try to fill the frame.  I keep the face in the center and then crop to an appropriate size.  That way you don't get edge distortion.  Granted you lose resolution (pixels) but unless you're going to print a blow up, you'll never notice it.

Really excellent portrait photos. I especially like the policeman with the face shield. It strikes me as very powerful. Intense. Super job by you.

I've used the Q for a while now as 50mm.

Setting the 50mm frame and using it as a 50mm, with the advantage that if I miss a shoulder or something, the rest of the 28mm frame is till there.

I've had to force myself to do so. The urge to grab a M and a 50mm is still very strong.

But it's interting to work with the Q and see how it will perform as a 50mm camera.

and? did it work for you ?

Your photos are fantastic. I especially love the third one of the policeman with the visor. An intense look.
