IkarusJohn Posted October 23, 2015 Share #61 Posted October 23, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) LCT, I believe Jono used his left thumb. You make your choices, I will wait til I have more information. Lou, I hated the A7. For me, it was a toy. I owned one, and I speak from experience. I don't need to keep repeating the same mistake - Einstein called that insanity. There is no Sony in my future. Think about this - pick up your Leica, and think - would Leica ever make a Sony? If you like the Sony, and you don't see why the Leica, any Leica, is different, then you will be very happy with Sony. They're not for me. cheers
Advertisement Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 Hi IkarusJohn, Take a look here I realy hope the SL is not the end of the M line. Or is this a 1970 remark?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
lct Posted October 23, 2015 Share #62 Posted October 23, 2015 LCT, I believe Jono used his left thumb. [...] Sounds logical indeed. This would prove that it is impossible to trigger image magnification whilst turning the focus ring with the SL601.

For me, I'd rather turn the focus ring after I'd triggered the magnification.
lct Posted October 23, 2015 Share #65 Posted October 23, 2015 Too slow John. With my Fuji i can do both actions at the same time. Same with the M240 thanks to auto-magnification. Sounds like i will stick to the latters pending the launch of the next M...

Same with the M240 thanks to auto-magnification. Sounds like i will stick to the latters pending the launch of the next M... I have one problem with that. Sometimes I got focus nailed, but need to fine tune it between shots. In order to bring out the magnification, I need to turn the focusing ring, so I loose the previous focus point. That's why I prefer to keep auto-magnification off, and press the magnification button on the M240 when needed. The only problem, the button is difficult to locate by touch. Ideally the magnified frame should be just a small patch in the frame center. That way, magnification can be kept always on, just like a RF patch of a DSLR split screen. Steveoc64 Posted October 23, 2015 Share #70 Posted October 23, 2015 Simple. My first Leica (DLux 6) was way more camera than I thought I would ever need when I first bought it. I still use it often for some tasks that it is well suited for, but it convinced me that I need an M-E. My Fed's and Zorkis convinced me that I love shooting film, and that I need to get an M7 for my film shooting. The Leica SL (which I see as a mini-S) is a convincing argument to get a Leica S. I just need a convincing enough assignment to cover the gap.
IkarusJohn Posted October 23, 2015 Share #71 Posted October 23, 2015 Too slow John. With my Fuji i can do both actions at the same time. Same with the M240 thanks to auto-magnification. Sounds like i will stick to the latters pending the launch of the next M... I'm trying to recall how magnification systems worked on other cameras. If I recall correctly, you push a button on the T and another camera, magnification was automatic if you touched th focus ring (using an M lens). Of the two, automatic magnification was the most frustrating. If I can train myself to press the button without removing the camera from my eye or letting go the camera, I'll be happy. It's not a deal killer for me, I'd have to say. The 4 buttons around the LCD are programmable (at least one reviewer says some of the others are as well). Speed has never been an issue for me where magnification is concerned.

People have been known to glue a kind of knob to that button so that they can find it by touch.
