KallumR Posted September 24, 2015 Share #1 Posted September 24, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hey guys, So my first lens finally arrived (50mm NOKTON f1.1) and the problems have begun with my M8. After taking a few first photos I have begun to notice 2 major dead pixels, 1 blue and 1 green (attached photo). I have been looking around on the forums and have it seems that the only real solution is sending it off to Leica for a CCD correction or total replacement. Now I live in Australia and am unsure where I should send it for it to be the cheapest? Back to the Fatherland or off to somewhere close like Tokyo or Kyoto. Any help would be appreciated, thanks a heap guys. (Photo displaying dead pixels: https://db.tt/m5tBOj0r )

jaapv Posted September 24, 2015 Share #2 Posted September 24, 2015 Nothing to do with the lens. Leica Germany, I fear.
MarkP Posted September 24, 2015 Share #3 Posted September 24, 2015 Call Camera Clinic in Melbourne. They are the Australian authorised Leica service centre. I'll pm you the details. Mark
KallumR Posted September 24, 2015 Author Share #4 Posted September 24, 2015 Sorry, didn't mean to infer the problem was with the lens, its just that I finally got to take photos with my M8, and now know I have this problem.
jaapv Posted September 24, 2015 Share #5 Posted September 24, 2015 I don't think they do sensor mapping, but who knows

Was it pico, or menos (??) suggested.... Take off lens and shoot 3 exposures at 30 seconds each....pointing the camera to a light source...I guess a tungsten or fluorescent bulb.....said to cure some pixel and line problems ..... try, and let us know... cheers Dave S
KallumR Posted September 26, 2015 Author Share #8 Posted September 26, 2015 Ah, sadly no. Seems like its off back to Germany... At least I was refunded 100euro for the fault.

gbealnz Posted September 27, 2015 Share #11 Posted September 27, 2015 (edited) I've just looked at your shot, and personally, I'd forget it, just use the camera. YES, you can see them, and now you have seen them you'll always see them, but heck, on 99% of your everyday shots I'd suspect you may not. Plus fixing it is a simple click with the clone tool. I often have to with pixels like this on astro shots. MANY more of them than the two you have. I'd be waiting for something major to rear it's head (touch wood it doesn't) before I spent the sort of money you will likely spend. If and when that happens, get these two pesky spots sorted at the same time. Agreed though, Camera Clinic is excellent, I had my X1 flash fixed by them, awesome service. jaapv Posted September 27, 2015 Share #12 Posted September 27, 2015 the cost might be a positive surprise.
bideford Posted November 25, 2015 Share #13 Posted November 25, 2015 (edited) the cost might be a positive surprise. Agreed. Nothing like the numbers I have seen floating about (and quoted by dealers). Likely to get a rangefinder clean and adjust as well. I have now had 2 M8's remapped.
