Cases for the Q

You are meant to remove the original before sticking on the Arte di Mano one, I didn't as I did not want to trash the original! So just stuck the new one on over the top of the original. Obviously the fit is then not flush but it is fine and thus far no problems with it lifting or such like.

Agreed - I certainly wouldn't want to remove the original Leica skin

Sorry, but it reminds me of this abomination. Each to their own and all that...

Is that alligator?

Very good looking.

How hard is it to remove the old and apply the new skin?

Maybe you could post a link to the video you've followed, if that's the case?

Thank you!

Hi thats the lizard skin from artedimano

I follow the video on youtube from artedimano itself :)

Thanks

The Arte di Mano half case for the Q.  The fit is very good and the leather has a nice feel.

Love the Arte di Mano case.

The leather is top notch, the grip helps, and the battery cover is a pleasure. Expensive, but worth it.

Here you go,

Flipbac FBG3 Camera Grip for Point & Shoot Digital Cameras - FBG3

Holds very nice no issues at all.

When I got my Q I saw no need for a beautiful expensive leather case or half case that fit over the camera. Although I certainly admired them and sort of wanted one!

Here's what I do after owning the Q for a couple of months: Either I carry the bare camera itself when I'm using it, or else I want to safely stow it in a case that offers protection against bumps, dust, moisture (to a reasonable extent). I lead an active lifestyle - I wanted something that would be good to carry on hikes and on my bike for cycling tours. I contacted Lowe Pro and got the smallest one of the bags that would fit it nicely. It is

http://store.lowepro.com/adventura-tlz-20-ii

This has worked out great. It is neoprene padded and just fits the camera nicely with hood attached. Spare battery and SD card fits in their too in their own little compartments. This is about as small a case as you could get that would do all this and it even fits into my fanny pack. Very inexpensive, protective, and doesn't appear from the outside that I'm toting around a $4500 thing. So I'm very happy with this simple, convenient, inexpensive solution and I recommend it. Hope this helps others with similar needs!

Many thanks for the 'heads up' you guys .... just ordered the grip and the LowePro.

I have a feeling it's going to be a long relationship with the Q   :)

I've just come across a review of a half-case for the Q by macfilos.  It's well worth looking at if you are looking for a protective case.  The case was made by Paul Glendell (www.glendell.co.uk) who is both a fully-trained saddle maker and leather worker and a professional photographer!  He is also uses Leicas for his professional work.  I have two of Paul's half cases on my M9 and M-E cameras and am delighted with them.  They've protected the cameras since new and they are both still in near mint condition.

The Q is next on my purchase list I will certainly be contacting him for a case.

From the pictures of the Q case on his site it does not appear as if the Thumbs Up grip will work correctly on his case.  Am I correct?

Now got the Lowepro Orguy and you're bang on the mark for sure. If I'm out walking I'll use a Domke Camera Bag and work from there (never ever have the camera hanging round my neck on a bloomin' neck strap, heaven forbid)

BUT I travel a lot by motorcycle,  throughout Europe and even further afield, long trips on the road. The Lowepro is an ideal way to keep the Q safe and secure (fits perfectly even with the Leica protector half case fitted) in my tank bag or one of the panniers. You must have a big fanny pack though

Thanks again for the heads up  ;)

I might also add that I bought the SF26 flash for the Q because there are just some times that fill flash is needed, in spite of the good low light performance of the Q. I discovered that this flash fits securely into the side mesh pocket of the Lowepro. Now in one very tidy package I can carry the camera and flash. It really is an inexpensive excellent solution to the durable functional carryall for this setup. I use a Jandd large fanny pack, by the way. It is large but not huge.

I have this case, and if you let Paul know ahead of time that you are going to use a Thumbs Up (as I do - a must), he will make one for you with a modification to accommodate it.  The case is great, a good value, and custom made.  Keep in mind that it covers a lot of the rear, so the buttons must be lined up perfectly horizontally to the leather strip to get to them.

I admire these half cases, and to be totally honest, I don't use mine anymore, as I found the Leica accessory hand grip and Thumbs Up together is the best combo to carry this baby around mated with a A&A silk cord strap from eons ago that can be worn over the neck, or as I use it, a wrist strap.

Received mine, love it... But just one thing, I have to take it out if I want to use tripod...

That was one of the considerations for me when I was choosing a half case.  The Arte di Mano has a tripod mount within the case.
