I use a hood, and that's what protects the lens from scratches, bumps, etc. If you want to use a lens cap, either the original hood and metal cap, or a ventilated hood and a 49mm lens cap. 1 Quote Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

I love the simplicity of it and no longer use a lens cap. I do keep a UV filter on most of the time to protect the lens. Yes, I can rotate it without getting fingerprints on the filter. I gave up using the lens cap after a very short time. It seemed unnecessary to me and some trouble. I ordered the B+W circular HTC MRC nano XS-Pro Digital and wondered whether I could use (turn) it with the original hood in its place.
