jonoslack Posted August 28, 2015 Share #1 Posted August 28, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) HI There Sean Reid has just published his extensive review of the S(007). He's understandably extremely positive (it's a fantastic camera, I've been testing one as well). It's a pay site, but well worth the effort: reidreviews.com All the best Jonathan Slack
Advertisement Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 Hi jonoslack, Take a look here Sean Reid's S 007 Review is up. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
gpwhite Posted August 28, 2015 Share #2 Posted August 28, 2015 Jono, I pay, , so I got to read the S typ 007 review yesterday. His promised follow on piece will address the useful exposure range within in a file (he explains why DR is as misunderstood as CA), which I believe will be most interesting. But here is my point... for some reason, Sean Reid publishes his reviews with mostly shots @f/8. For the life of me, I cannot figure this approach out. Would you kindly include a number of open aperture shots in your review, please? How else can one see the full character of a lens? Because you know the Leica crew and I do not, I cannot avoid ranting a bit further. Karbe's team does not design lenses to sing at f/5.6 or f/8, right? John McMaster Posted August 28, 2015 Share #3 Posted August 28, 2015 I often use my S lenses at f5.6 or f8, often needed to get greater DoF. They are impressive at any aperture ;-) john
jip Posted August 28, 2015 Share #4 Posted August 28, 2015 Yes but in a review all apertures should be covered. Even if it's just a camera review and not lens review.
darylgo Posted August 28, 2015 Share #5 Posted August 28, 2015 Hi Jono, Will you be posting your test results soon? Can you tell us some of your findings in this forum, such as dr, how quickly the camera shots? I won't ask you to compare ccd and cmos Thanks!!! PS- iso usable range, noise and any other information....greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much, joakim_d! That is a very nice series all around. There is a mixture of lens openings on display in Adam's article, which was just my point about what is missing from Reid's reviews.
Arif Posted August 29, 2015 Share #9 Posted August 29, 2015 Thank you very much, joakim_d! That is a very nice series all around. There is a mixture of lens openings on display in Adam's article, which was just my point about what is missing from Reid's reviews. I subscribe to Reid as well but my questions were better answered by Adam. Both LL and Reid were working with a pre-final version and Leica spent a lot of time in the last few weeks to fix open issues prior to release so I wanted to see how the files would like in the final shipped version. Anxiously waiting Jono's review
johnloumiles Posted August 30, 2015 Share #10 Posted August 30, 2015 Do you think we'll see the same CCD vs CMOS debate with the S like we did with the M? Do you see any discernible difference? erlingmm Posted September 6, 2015 Share #11 Posted September 6, 2015 I find it a little bit strange that there are not more authoritative reviews of the S007. Reichmann's LuLa was mostly first impressions, and I don't know if he had production FW and LR optimized for the 007. Sean Reid is out, quite thorough, but still first look, a rolling review that will be updated. Jono said he would try to get something out last week, but I have not seen any. No Ming, none of the other "usual suspects". Contrary to the launch of the Q which seemed very orchestrated, this launch seems uncoordinated. Are we waiting for final FW/LR? Is the camera so fresh from production that no one have tried it out for a while? I am particularly interested in tests of the DR claim of 15 stops....
