aalkaabi Posted August 10, 2015 Share #1 Posted August 10, 2015 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all, I don't know what I did, but I can't seem to be able to control the exposure compensation directly with the right dial. Now I have to first select it from the menu or through the function button. Any help appreciated. Edited August 10, 2015 by aalkaabi
Advertisement Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 Hi aalkaabi, Take a look here Exposure compensation. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Guest jvansmit Posted August 11, 2015 Share #2 Posted August 11, 2015 I think (but happy to be corrected) that exposure compensation can only be changed via the thumbwheel when you have set a manual aperture, i.e. not auto aperture
aalkaabi Posted August 11, 2015 Author Share #3 Posted August 11, 2015 Thanks Jvansmit, Funny but true, it only works if manual aperture is used. At least in my case, one would think in a manual setting I wouldn't need an exposure dial.
kkonkkrete Posted August 11, 2015 Share #4 Posted August 11, 2015 As long as there are still some degrees of freedom in the exposure that can be set by the camera (ISO, shutter time), then exposure compensation makes sense. (But no idea why it's not there when you have auto aperture ... IMO a good interface should stay as stable as possible across modes).
dreamer2976 Posted August 11, 2015 Share #5 Posted August 11, 2015 Exposure compensation using the thumb wheel only works when in A mode. All other modes have to use menu or Fn button, which is annoying.
jut81 Posted July 1, 2018 Share #6 Posted July 1, 2018 Personally I prefer the thumbwheel set to 'exposure compensation' so I know what I get when reaching for it. The problem however is that long exposures require the thumbwheel to be set to 'auto'. This then results in confusion when trying to get simple 'exposure compensation'. Because of this I 'waste' one user profile for long exposures with the thumbwheel in 'auto'. Might this experience be improved if the thumbwheel automatically adjusts shutter speed when the shutter speed dial is moved to 1+ (or 2000-), despite being in the 'exposure compensation' setting? This could be simpler than diving in to the menu change to 'auto' whenever working on long exposures + having to remember changing back once done. Thoughts?
