The blue in the sky looked PS!!!! amazingly clean!!!!

Not edited much, only increased contrast a bit with S curve. But the blue is out of camera! No polarizer used either! I'm always amazed how clean the air is in the Swiss alps!

Jesus! Do you PLAY that? That's one of the most beautiful and difficult pieces in the cello literature.

So, in addition to photography, you know music as well. Yes, I play that, although not as well as I would like. ;) It is indeed difficult.

Every weekend that I am home I play all six suites. This shot was just before I started playing.

Jesse,

That's extraordinarily impressive!

I studied cello for five years in my 30's. I played the first suite, and was working on the Brahms e-minor when I just couldn't stand anymore how bad I sounded! I went back to the piano, where at least I play in tune with a tone that doesn't sound like a wounded animal. (Disclaimer: I worked as a stage hand at Marlboro, and turned pages for the Chang-Ma-Kogan trio in college - yes, THAT Ma - so my standards were perhaps unrealistic  :p )

This was from a lens test, not meant as an artistic photograph, but you can see my particular poison on the piano (Schumann Toccata - less beautiful than the Bach, but a great warmup) Oh, and it is an S photo with the 70/2.5:

Best,

That is a nice piano. I also worked at a theater in Baltimore, when I was in school. I was a house musician on double bass and electric bass at the Morris Mechanic Theater. If you are ever near Zurich, Switzerland please let me know. I am sure we have lots to talk about.

Playing after listening to Ma can be disappointing. ;)

Jesse,

The piano is much better than I deserve. It is a rebuilt 1898 Steinway D. It is too gentle for a concert hall, but is the only D I've ever heard that sounds nice in a home.

I've never been to Switzerland (Lakes region in Italy, but no further north.) If I'm ever in the neighborhood, I'll let you know!

Best,

Matt
