Sorry, I have not posted in a while, but I went out to the beach this afternoon with the S006 to photograph the family of a friend.  Conditions were horrible - bright sun, no clouds, white sand.  I thought the 006 fitted with an SW58 for fill flash did an incredible job in those conditions.  Here is but one example.

John,

That's a very interesting image. Was the light like that? The scenery? Or was that look obtained in post? I'm not familiar with that vegetation, so I can't tell.

I think that's Spanish moss, one of the signature plants of the South.

Matt, thanks for taking the time to comment. Here's the color image for comparison. It was taken around 1 pm so the sun was pretty much directly overhead. The "look" is natural.

FYI, Spanish Moss is a parasite. I've had the occasional strand show up on my oak trees, but as soon as I am aware it's there I get rid of it. We have many roads on the neighboring islands which are covered by oak trees and Spanish Moss. It's quite lovely to look at but don't pick it up or stand on it - it's usually loaded with chiggers!

I read that Spanish moss is actually an "epiphyte" and not a parasite--it depends on the host for physical support but doesn't absorb nutrients from it.

After the broken AF motor, I got it fixed in 3 hours in a shop in Shanghai by taking out the cracked nylon-ish gear and replaced with a brass one. the S24 is working fine now with even smoother feel to the focus ring, not sure why.... some rumour is that you have to turn the focus ring occasionally to prevent them from sticking from sitting too long. I did that on my other lens in the cabinet, and they all feel a little 'stuck' on the beginning of the turn. But after that it goes ok. So I think the rumour is true, that stick feeling of the focus ring is the reason why the AF motor will twist off the focus gear from its axis. Anyway, just glad that it's working now in such short time.
