earleygallery Posted July 18, 2015 Share #1 Posted July 18, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) The Q is still fresh off the blocks but seems to be suffering from the usual Leica 'quality' control. Faulty LCD's Dust on sensors Missing parts (battery, Leica badge) Faulty EVF Faulty autofocus/OIS Total failure/shutdown For those who care about the survival of Leica, QC issues like these must be a huge drain on their profits. They really need to address these issues.
Advertisement Posted July 18, 2015 Posted July 18, 2015 Hi earleygallery, Take a look here Q faults so far. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
ricky1981 Posted July 18, 2015 Share #2 Posted July 18, 2015 The only one that seems even remotely widespread is the clicking when you push the rear screen. Yes, for the price, you'd expect perfection but there seem to be far more happy Q users than people complaining. Most of the moaning seems to be from people who don't actually have one.
Geoffrey James Posted July 18, 2015 Share #3 Posted July 18, 2015 People tend to over-worry about new Leica models, as with a first-born child. Stuff happens. Mine seems to be fine, red dot and all, although now it is hidden under electrical tape. I had trouble with one of my M9's -- failed card reader, shutter breakdown and the preview lever, which I never use, just fell off. But I got loaners, and it is now still going strong. Rick Posted July 18, 2015 Share #4 Posted July 18, 2015 James, If you are having all of these problems with your Q why don't you send it back or return it to the dealer. I haven't heard of anyone with all of these problems. So far the three people I know have had really good luck with the QC of their camera. TAKE IT BACK! digitalfx Posted July 18, 2015 Share #5 Posted July 18, 2015 The Q is still fresh off the blocks but seems to be suffering from the usual Leica 'quality' control. I am more than happy with my Q, as are everyone I know that has one. I think you are trying to make something out of nothing. Is there a single product ever produced that didn't have flaws? The people with issues are in the vast minority.
Rick Posted July 18, 2015 Share #6 Posted July 18, 2015 (edited) James, I have to say that I don't really know about all of these problems. I admit I only handled it at the dealer, but it sure seemed like a great camera and I was impressed by its state of the art technology that has not been Leica's strong point in the past. It also had that Leica DNA, unlike the T. I am saddened to hear that you are having all of these QC issues. I thought everyone was reporting that this is a pretty solid product. POLL TIME!!! ARE FOLKS THAT ACTUALLY OWN THE CAMERA SATISFIED WITH THE QC? I'LL LEAVE IT TOTALLY OPEN TO YOUR INTERPRETATION OF "SATISFIED." I'll vote first. I don't own the camera so I'll vote: +0 no vote Rick Edited July 18, 2015 by Rick
MikeChadwick Posted July 18, 2015 Share #7 Posted July 18, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've got a Q with dust on the sensor so I'll be voting No
viramati Posted July 18, 2015 Share #8 Posted July 18, 2015 the only recurring issues so far seem to be the clicking LCD when pressed that so far hasn't effected performance and 2 cases of dust on the sensor. I feel the dust on the sensor to be the possibly more worrying of the two if it turns out to be ingress of the material into the camera after it was shipped and during use. If this is this is the case it is more than a QC issue and could be a design problem that could have more serious ramifications for Leica as I presume there would have to be a recall and a fix. We will have to see if more people start having this problem
thighslapper Posted July 18, 2015 Share #9 Posted July 18, 2015 The Q is still fresh off the blocks but seems to be suffering from the usual Leica 'quality' control. Sorry ...... but you need a sample size to justify this statement ..... I'm not defending Leica ...... but a product release with a zero problem rate is quite unusual ....... it's the % that counts and the pattern of issues ..... I would be reassured that they are a variety of problems that appear to be sporadic rather than one or two constant things pointing to systemic failure or design faults. I think it is far too 'earley' to pass verdict and sentence without all the evidence ......
jaapv Posted July 18, 2015 Share #10 Posted July 18, 2015 IIRC the AF "fault" was pilot error
earleygallery Posted July 18, 2015 Author Share #11 Posted July 18, 2015 There's a thread from someone whose lens started making grinding noises as though the AF motor is stuck. Agree, many products have 'early adopter' issues.
dreamer2976 Posted July 18, 2015 Share #12 Posted July 18, 2015 I don't have a problem with my Q. To be fair to Leica some units may be faulty but the error rate may not be significant as those that have perfect sets don't come to forum to say they have a perfect set. I have a perfect Q (so far), and a perfect X Vario (from day 1).
AlanJW Posted July 18, 2015 Share #14 Posted July 18, 2015 My Q is fine. The Internet is great for flushing out problems. You'd never buy a car if you read the car forums. And you'd never buy a camera either. I'm happy Rick has started a "survey" but there is no way for us to tell what the failure rate is.
Overgaard Posted July 18, 2015 Share #15 Posted July 18, 2015 What's the clicking of the screen?
pop Posted July 18, 2015 Share #16 Posted July 18, 2015 What's the clicking of the screen? It's a phenomenon reported in the German part of the forum; pressing the upper left corner of the screen is said to produce a clicking noise. No one seems to know if it has any consequences or whether it's a defect. No one seems to know if pressing the upper left corner of the screen is a required procedure for using the camera. Still, it's being reported and it's annoying some members which I presume to be owners of the camera.
alee Posted July 18, 2015 Share #17 Posted July 18, 2015 If you want the camera as soon as it comes out, this is what happens. Either you accept the risk that goes along with buying during production ramp-up, or you wait. Cars, consumer electronics, appliances, etc. It doesn't matter. New model, new challenges. Nobody here should be surprised.
lucerne Posted July 18, 2015 Share #18 Posted July 18, 2015 Arrived yesterday, assembled last week. Charged the battery and Took it for a street test today and nothing untoward except that battery is new and hasn't had a chance to develop its full capacity so it drained pretty fast. I have a spare. My first impressions are favourable but in my mind I'm comparing it to my M9 and it is a different league / category. This camera is all about electronics and is the result of so many leica users asking (and getting what they asked for). That can be the downside! I really don't think that the rangefinder concept will die as a result of this change of directional change by leica. However, that issue is for another thread/debate.
bernie.lcf Posted July 18, 2015 Share #19 Posted July 18, 2015 Mine is from June 16. I had asked my dealer for one the Friday before. It is fine and has none of the issues.
