earleygallery Posted July 10, 2015 Share #4 Posted July 10, 2015 As Leica have now apparently solved the sensor corrosion problem only do so if you want the newer model.
jcraf Posted July 29, 2015 Share #5 Posted July 29, 2015 Yes The upgrade is worth it for the shutter sound alone....but joking apart, having had several M9-based models and latterly an M and M-P, I have to say that the M240 cameras are a real improvement. Yes, it's true that Leica has solved the M9 series sensor corrosion problem, but it's possible/probable that even the newest M-E will not yet have one with the improved glass. So it may need a trip to Wetzlar in the future - bank on up to several months without the camera. So for me, the M/M-P has it. And I'm not entirely convinced by the CCD vs CMOS argument. Oops....... kivis Posted August 9, 2015 Share #6 Posted August 9, 2015 Can't keep up with all the new Leica's. Everything was fine up to and including the M9 then it all went haywire. Every time someone mentions an MA/ M-P or whatever I have to go the Leica website and look it up. Why Leica after all these years have you made such a nomenclature mess of things? Sorry for hijacking the thread.
Herr Barnack Posted September 12, 2015 Share #7 Posted September 12, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) I upgraded from an M240 to an M-P Safari. Olive finish aside, the M-P has a 2GB buffer, lens frame line preview lever and sapphire glass rear screen. These are worth the price of admission in spades, imho. If you are satisfied with your M-E, I would recommend upgrading to the M-P. With it, you will be even more satisfied.
250swb Posted September 13, 2015 Share #8 Posted September 13, 2015 Hello, The dilemma is as topic. Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks, If you don't imagine everybody is looking at you when you fire your M-E shutter, if you don't need a larger buffer, and more particularly if you can't decide for yourself, then why listen to fanboys for the M240? Keep your M-E until you can decide. One other consideration, the new M will be announced soon, and guess what, all the people saying 'buy an M-P' will soon be saying how much better the new camera is over the 'old' M-P. It is often very sensible to jump a generation of camera just to get out of the constant upgrade cycle fuelled by gear lust unless there is a particular feature the new camera has that you genuinely need, but times like that are in reality few and far between. You have a bullet proof M-E that can have a new sensor if it ever needs one and come back from Leica like new, so no panic. Steve
