Yesterday, when taking part in an old-friends'group meeting at one of the members'property in Alentejo region, Portugal, I noticed this very old and superb "chaparro" - the popular name locally given to the cork-tree. The numbers white painted are confirming the years of the last "peelings".

The property of my friend counts more than 2,000 cork-trees, and is typical of the region, where cork collection is the main "industry".
