fotografr Posted June 12, 2015 Share #1 Posted June 12, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) The scent put out by this flowering tree across the street from my house is sweet and incredibly strong. I'm sure someone out there knows what kind of tree it is. I don't. M/28mm Welcome, dear visitor! euston Posted June 12, 2015 Share #2 Posted June 12, 2015 That's a lovely tree to have close to your house, Brent. I reckon it's a white form of lilac.
pauledell Posted June 12, 2015 Share #3 Posted June 12, 2015 Brent, I can't help you on the identification of the tree but it looks like a fine walk near it. It reminds me of the tree down the street from where I lived as a child. A lovely picture. Paul
platypus Posted June 13, 2015 Share #4 Posted June 13, 2015 I can't contribute to the identity of this lovely tree, although there is one here in my great grandfather's old garden, it is suffering from advanced age but still blooms on cue. It's certainly not native to Australia, when the garden was planted (circa 1880) they imported many exotic trees from the UK and from India. Our specimen has done well here for a very long time, despite the harsh climate, so I don't think it could be a lilac of any sort. Lovely photo though, it makes one want to walk into it and smell the flowers......
fotografr Posted June 13, 2015 Author Share #5 Posted June 13, 2015 Thank you, Euston, Paul and Dee. I did some internet research and was finally able to identify this as a Japanese Tree Lilac, a very hardy species which would explain their survival in Dee's harsh climate as well as our own.
