Is the new Monochrom Typ 246 really the perfect camera?

I just played with the M246 today and was very impressed.  I've not spent any significant time with an M240 before, and must say the new shutter was the smoothest and quietest I've ever tried, even including film Leicas.

i won't buy it thought.  Up to ISO 3200 there is little, if any improvement over the original MM, and of course my MM is paid for.

I’m sure a few of the minor flaws of the M240 will show up in this camera as well.

True - I've had the M246 for two weeks and it's already managed to shoot a "black frame" (accompanied by a "hollow" shutter sound and the next frame slightly overexposed). Battery 80% charged. Following frames all good.

Meanwhile my M-P240 is still awaiting shutter repair in Solms, since 9 February.

Both cameras sport fantastic image quality but I am starting to appreciate the importance of back-up.

I had M9 then MM. Then I also using m240 now. You have to know the m240 and 246 can't shppt long time exposure. Max is 60 seconds under iso 320 then it goes down to 20 seconds for higher iso. I probably keep my MM for i love shooting bw in long exposure time using ND 10 stop filter.

Long exposures is a great feature of the M1.  I was really disappointed that the M2 doesn't have that function.
