I have now gone bonkers. Being first on one dealers list for this new B&W camera I turned it down. They will receive it tomorrow and I could have had it for the weekend.

I am on another dealer's list and due to trade ins I will not need to lay out cash when they give me the call which could be many weeks away. Oh, well.

I can still capture images in the meantime, but just not with an M246.

Lou, I know how you feel.

When the M246 announcement was imminent, I told my dealer that my MM was so good I could not reason replacing it. After reading the Sean Reid and Jono Slack reviews on the morning of the official Leica announcement, however, I threw reason out the window and called to place my order...  well, I went from in front to far back in just a few days. It appears the demand for the M246 is very strong, and we know how Leica usually responds to strong demand ;)

Cash in hand, now the hunt begins. Did your dealer have any other people waiting? Any leads are welcomed.

Thanks.

Eric

Yes, many and who ever was #2 will have it tomorrow. They appear to be drippling supplies out to dealers so good stockage will be many months away.

I've had mine since Monday, have been able to take only a few shots so far due to a busy week at work. Looking forward to the week-end. Got 2 vintage Summicrons to use specifically with it, 50 Rigid and 35 v1. I like the initial results a lot, those lenses are surprisingly good for their age...will post something in a few days.

To all those would-be present purchasers currently on a long waiting list:

Eat your hearts out! I know a very small Leica dealer who claims special clout with an important person at Leica New Jersey (USA). About one week ago, I phoned to ask him if it would be in any way possible for him to send me a new M 246 before June 7. He said that he would see, even though apparently he himself was not expecting to receive any M 246s by that date. After a few days, he contacted me to say that he would have an M 246 in for me on May 27.

I know for a fact that I was first on my Leica store's list, and that they received one today, but I am sure a VIP or celebrity got the jump on me. I am totally depressed because I just bought my 50mm APO yesterday and was hoping to use the combo this weekend.

Time to look for a new dealer... ;)

My dealer has them in stock. He was already trying to sell me one. :D

I agree it's time to change dealers. #1 is just that, #1, not #1 behind some hotshot celeb. Maybe it's time tio change cities too!

Hahaha... Thanks guys. Truth is that I love my guys here in LA, and aside from being a photographer, I also work in the film and television industry, so I know how it works. I hate to admit it, but that is how it is here. I'm just being a big baby anyways. It's not like I can't wait a week or so.

For my store they do not start building a list until the official announcement. I actually called them 20 minutes prior to opening the morning after announcement and caught one of my sales guys just getting ready to open. When I told him, he was actually unaware of the announcement as he had not logged into the computer yet, so I basically informed him and called dibs. Regardless, they assure me I am very high up on the list and that I will get the camera sooner rather than later. To be honest, I should have expected some automatic VIP's anyhow.

Funny thing is, I still feel like kicking and screaming! My wife the other day told me she thought our 6 week old identical twin boys liked me more than they liked her. I explained to her that they simply understand me more since I am not all that far off from them in my maturity development...

Perhaps we should arise a rumor from gallows humor  B)  that the first batch of M246 distributed in the US have been diagnosed with glue-less strap lugs and faulty histograms. Then we can feel better about falling from the top shelf with our dealers and claim that the second wave of M246 were actually submitted to Wetzlar quality control before shipment.

I mean, it's not as though the movie stars are going to actually shoot with their Monochrom-- they are just going to be shot holding it, right?

Happily, I received mine last night. I've yet to give it a thorough workout but the files are really impressive. Now, since I bought my original Monochrom, I upgraded my iMac to one with Retina Display. So it is possible the richer tonal values are a function of the computer. But even on the LCD, their seems to be a decided step up in tonal subtleties, richness.  And yes, it could be the LCD. If the mods are benevolent, I'll post a couple of early pics here, hoping what I am talking about comes through.

Here's one early shot whose tonal values seemed, I don't know, somehow richer than the original Monochrom's:
