My wife picked it up and warmed it with her hands. The hummer recovered and I saw it take off for the next tree. I am sure it will be back for the sugar water in the feeder we set out. Â Being in a rural area, where there are large flocks of birds, this unfortunate thing occurs here routinely, parrots seem to be particularly at risk, although I have had even Kookaburras fall prey to the illusion (I guess they see the reflection of the sky in the windows). Over the years I have wracked my brains for a way to stop it, but without success. It is quite worrisome, occasionally the impact proves fatal as they break their necks. The noise of the impact of a bird the size of a Kookaburra slamming into a window is extremely startling for anyone in the house at the time, heart stopping in fact!
