Tom Barry Posted April 20, 2015 Share #1 Â Posted April 20, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) As promised, another update. Both owl parents are having to hunt to satisfy the giant appetites of the growing chicks. With three huge chicks and one big momma, the nest is getting crowded. This morning, I managed to get one of the near-fledglings standing tall. The other two were napping. We're guessing they will have flown the nest by the end of this week. One fellow who got there early got a great shot of the mother owl in flight. Here's the best one I could get: Â Up1-web by tombarry975, on Flickr

Tom Barry Posted April 21, 2015 Author Share #6 Â Posted April 21, 2015 But what Mama owl gives them to eat? Pure growth hormones? You'd think so, from the speed of growth. Our most persistent owl watcher got a shot Friday of one of the chicks devouring an entire rat one of the parents brought home. Not a pretty picture, but owls live in nature, not a Disney movie.
