Iduna Posted April 16, 2015 Share #6 Â Posted April 16, 2015 wow, what a lens! The picture is a true eye-opener and shows an exciting new perspective. One has to know how to handle hat lens to show its delightful bokeh.
thighslapper Posted April 17, 2015 Author Share #7  Posted April 17, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) wow, what a lens! The picture is a true eye-opener and shows an exciting new perspective. One has to know how to handle hat lens to show its delightful bokeh.  ..... yes .....but the rule is quite simple ...... wide open the best effect occurs when the background is the same distance behind the subject as the lens is in front ...... the distance seems quite  critical but is easily seen in LV on the M. Textured and patterned backgrounds give the best effects. The only other problem is that the subject must be absolutely central as DOF is very small and field curvature huge ..... so you cannot focus and re-compose with the subject off centre...... which is a problem with things like full length portraits. At smaller apertures this lens is exceptionally sharp and produces images as good as any other high quality moderate tele lens. Once you realise all this and are careful at choosing subjects you can get some very dramatic effects ....... this is from the 'other' bit of the forum ....... it's a pity the subject (a bronze of a cheetah) is a bit ugly ...... but the bokeh is really weird .....  Welcome, dear visitor! platypus Posted April 17, 2015 Share #10 Â Posted April 17, 2015 Terrifically clever stuff, but the second one is a bit overwhelming for my taste.
thighslapper Posted April 18, 2015 Author Share #11  Posted April 18, 2015 Terrifically clever stuff, but the second one is a bit overwhelming for my taste.  I have to agree.  Personally I don't like it ........ but the bokeh is really remarkable which is why I posted it ..... more subtle use of the effect often enhances images .... too much and it becomes a distraction
