Bobby Posted April 13, 2015 Share #1 Posted April 13, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) I don't have a Leica yet. I just wanted to know the following: when using live view, is there a "rectangle" I can move around to magnifiy and focus? Just like the Sony a7r? Advertisement Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Hi Bobby, Take a look here liveview focusing. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Mornnb Posted April 13, 2015 Share #2 Posted April 13, 2015 Yes and it automatically zooms in with focus peak when focusing, it works exactly like the A7. But it's fixed to the centre of the frame you can't move it.
CheshireCat Posted April 13, 2015 Share #3 Posted April 13, 2015 Ditto. Zoom is fixed in the center of the frame, so there is no rectangle to move. You just switch between 5x or 10x magnification ratios. I must add that focus peaking is not working fine with most of my lenses. ...but you get the best RF camera on the market
jaapv Posted April 13, 2015 Share #4 Posted April 13, 2015 It depends on your lenses. Leica's peaking is tuned to work best with long lenses and macro for obvious reasons - and it does work best then, but it makes it a bit too subtle for medium focal lengths. Other cameras strike another balance. For instance my NEX peaking is totally inaccurate for longer lenses, but works fine on the kit zoom.
Chancf Posted April 13, 2015 Share #5 Posted April 13, 2015 straight forward answer to your question is No. Focus in the centre and recompose works for me
CheshireCat Posted April 13, 2015 Share #6 Posted April 13, 2015 Focus in the centre and recompose works for me Really depends on the lens. The stronger a lens field curvature, the worse it will work with focus and recompose. Then again, this is also true for the RF.
bocaburger Posted April 13, 2015 Share #7 Posted April 13, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) On the rare occasions I resort to Live View, I've found it works for me with the following only: EVF, no magnification, and no peaking. Basically I treat it like it was an SLR and find that gives me the best results.
wda Posted April 13, 2015 Share #8 Posted April 13, 2015 I find it works well indoors with a 50mm Summicron. I have no difficulty moving the camera to centre on my desired focus point; then final framing. Even at full aperture.
Bobby Posted April 15, 2015 Author Share #9 Posted April 15, 2015 I would use live view with landscape photography, so the error introduced by focus and recompose would be negligible. Good to know that you have both 5x and 10x. 10x is the most useful. Thank you all, Bob
