An example of the HyperPrime, shot wide open ~MFD, SOOC:

N.B. The example was posted to show chromatic aberration (on purpose). Noctiluces won't fare any better in this regard.

That Speedmaster is an interesting lens, Erick, thanks. It seems to give all the fun without the financial pain, however, Sony only....

Yes I know :-( I posted it just to compare price / quality

it cost 12 times less than the Noctilux

There was a stand at last weeks photography show selling SLR Magic lenses. I had a very brief look but only noticed lenses for cine use ? I could not see anything that looked like a 0.95 Noctilux .the stand was unmanned at the time ,I was on my way home and have a late model F1 Noctilux so only had a passing interest in looking at the build quality of the product.

Yes, marketing is not SLR Magic's greatest strength

I think most of their lenses are called "CINE" because of the clickless aperture. This does not make much sense, and makes several photographers overlook the lenses thinking they come in cine mounts, or won't cover their camera sensor in full. It is also interesting to note that format coverage is not clear at all in their site, but most lenses cover APS-C and some of them FF.

I am using the HyperPrime 50mm T/0.95 CINE with my M. The only difference with the "LM" (i.e. Leica M, non-CINE) version is the RF coupling.

And do not confuse the "T/0.95" versions with the "f/0.95" version, a totally different lens with much lower optical performance.

Quite confusing ? Bad marketing.

I have got an answer from MX Camera who produce Mitakon AND SLR Magic

they produce the Mitakon at 800$ for E mount , and exactly the same lens with another name for M mount at 4000$ !

Hi, we have made the 50/0.95 for M but under SLR magic's name.

We are not plan to made 50/0.95 or 35/0.95 for M in this moment.

Thank you so much

Best regards

^^^ The Mitakon f/0.95 and HyperPrime T/0.95 are two different designs.

What is "the same lens with another name in M mount" ?

In my message you can read the answer of the company

we have made the 50/0.95 for M but under SLR magic's name

I can read

The problem is that you said "exactly the same lens", but it isn't.

they have certainly not produced 2 very different lenses, they are maybe not exactly the same but the price is not at all the same

they sell it 4000 because it is for Leica M

and if you read they say that they have changed the name :)

It is actually $3000, but I agree SLR Magic is selling the lens at that price just because of the M mount. Exactly like Leica is selling the Oly EVF at twice the price.

It seems the Speedmaster has more or less the same optical quality, but an M lens can be easily adapted to multiple mirrorless cameras, while a NEX lens would require major surgery.

  • 2 years later...

Hello, Sorry about resurructing this thread. I read the thrity odd pages thread on Hyperprime lens! I think I understood most of it.

Q1: Are there any owners around?

Q2: Is the lens still operational or came apart!?

I came across some sites but none recent.

Can any owner throw some light please?

I am asking all this because I am thinking about getting one.

I also posted a question in customer forum but not received much attention.

Thanks.
