skimmel Posted May 14, 2007 Share #1 Posted May 14, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm not 100% sure where to post this, so posting here (just because it's where I usually "hang out") and the film forum. Hope that's OK. I've not looked through the The Focal Encyclopedia of Photography for years and don't really recall what was in there. I just got an offer for the new 4th Edition. What does everyone think about this book? Anyone seen the newest edition? It seems, just by the table of contents, to be like a lot of encyclopedias: Lots of breadth with little depth. Advertisement Posted May 14, 2007 Posted May 14, 2007 Hi skimmel, Take a look here The Focal Encyclopedia of Photography. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
ken_tanaka Posted May 14, 2007 Share #2 Posted May 14, 2007 I spent quite some time looking through this enormous book. It's interesting to browse. But it's a very large and heavy volume which features quite a bit of information destined to be dated by the time you read it. As I considered getting a copy the deciding thought that came to mind was In this age of the Internet, WHY? There is no crucial reference information in the book. It's basically a time-passer door stop. Ironically, the book does include a CD ROM which contains the entire book's contents. (I was not able to view it.) THAT might be nice to have. But you have to buy the book to get it. Duh. So I passed on it.
