Hello,

Just returning from Singapore with M plus sundries. Any suggestions on where to source "reasonable" insurance? Premium's in Geneva like 4% which seems very high for something that stays at home (not professional photographer) except for when I use camera/travel etc. Any suggestions much appreciated from the most expensive insurance country in the world (so it seems). Thanks

In the UK I add to my home policy, it worked out cheaper then custom insurance

Not sure if this is an option in Swiss

Check up on some of the restrictions the insurance company apply when adding to your Home Insurance.

I usually call them and ensure I'm covered for any trips out of home country..

I have a nightmare with camera insurance. Because I spend over 90 days a year in a different country (France), no UK based insurer will give me full coverage. I would therefore have to buy an annual policy in each country, which would be well over £1,000 for an M body and three lenses coverage any one loss, including a Noctilux and MATE. In that I would never have had a claim, in close to 60 years of using cameras, I have decided I will run uninsured. When I was doing a bit of professional photography (yacht interiors and museum archival documentation), I used to buy professional liability cover but that was quite cheap.

I travelled a lot in Europe and Asia last year and had to bite the bullet and get extra insurance since my household insurance wouldn't cover the equipment when I was travelling. I went with Aktivas (Fotoapparate-Versicherung - Aktivas GmbH - Versicherungsb). They are expensive but valid worldwide. For coverage of EUR 17,500 I paid just over EUR 300 for the year.

I am based in Germany and they have a separate form to fill in for Switzerland. With the recent removal of the exchange rate cap between Swiss Franc and Euro, it might well be significantly more if you are based in CH.

I am also insured with Aktivas. After extensive research they came out as the best. They take the standard photo insurance from Das Alte Leipziger, and then add a couple of extras to make it more effective.

Hi,

I live in Switzerland in Zürich and I just insured my camera equipment last year with Zurich Insurance. I also have my general household insurance with them and due to this I pay 1% per year for the additional insurance for my camera equipment.

Let me know if you need any more information about that.
