I wonder how many RD-1 cameras are still in use?  I recall Jonathan Eastland recommended them and he used one himself.

This is an old shot from 2005. I haven't used the Epson in years. But I got a lot of "keepers" with it, probably due to the Leica glass more than anything.

Hi, Andy, I'm curious about the white, powdery effect on the subject's face that works so well with the paint deterioration and white writing on the door.  Was the whiteness added deliberately, was it the result of some work she'd beed doing, was it a skin condition perhaps?

Pete.

Dunk's link explained the thanaka better than I could. As for the writing on the door, I have no idea--probably just some graffitti. The shot was taken at the top of Mt. Popa. I liked the color as a background and asked her to stand in front for a photo.

Backstory... While traveling through Myanmar in 2005, I met two young women selling postcards at Shwezigon Paya near Bagan. I planned to do a tour of the area the next day and rather than hiring an official government guide (which was expected), I asked the girls if they would take me around to their favorite pagodas. They agreed and we spent the next day bicycling around and crawling through hidden passageways in the beautiful old structures.

At the end of the day, we rode back to their village for some tea. Over snacks, I asked about nearby Mt. Popa. They said it was very beautiful, but had never seen it in person. The mother of one of the girls had lived her entire life only 60km away, but only knew it from the postcards she sold to tourists. It was only $20 or so for a taxi, so I asked if they'd accompany me again the next day for another private tour. The mom came along too, and she's the one standing in front of the yellow door in the photo above.

I'm the one with no thanaka in the photo below...

Alberti, you (just) missed focus, but what the hell. You got the personality! That is a real 'Dan' look.

Looking at that picture, I can almost hear his half chuckle.

Image is ALWAYS more important than sharpness or whatever.
