Because this is the Portrait forum, I'll comment that I use the new (well, not so new now) masking tools in Lightroom on all my portraits, and I think they improve the image without exception. I let AI select the background, and drop the exposure about a third of a stop. It's enough to separate the subject that much more (in addition to shooting at f/1.7) without, I hope, making the image look too manipulated. I also sometimes also select the subject (in portraits, a person) and slightly increase the exposure and sharpness (and clarity, iif it's not a headshot).
