Portrait of a young pretty girl who was working in a Record shop I stopped in. She paused her work for a moment to let me take three frames.

I really like this portrait, it's very similar to the images that I try to create.   The eyes are absolutely sharp however, from an aesthetic point of view, how do you feel about the focus fade from the shoulder on the right through to the hair on the other shoulder.  I am getting this effect with the new to me, Summilux 35mm f/1.4 and am not sure about the fade off.  I realise that the lens would need to be stopped down according to the degree of turn of the subject but just wondering, does it matter?

The focus fade, as you call it, is generally a deliberate device to concentrate attention on, in this case, the eyes, as you have observed. The variety of aesthetics available due to various lenses is often debated, never resolved, other than, 'that's how I do it because I like it'. Know it is there and use it, or avoid it, I'm afraid.

Thanks. You asked, "Does it matter". To whom? Not being cheeky, it's an artistic call. If you like it, it's good. I shot this with the Voigtlander 40 1.2, similar to your lens; though definitely not as technically perfect.
