i don't use a filter on my X1, but did add an after-market lens cap which opens automatically when the power is switched on. quite handy, and can't be lost. :)

i've seen an adapter tube for the X1 which accepts filters and may function as a lens shade. have a look at amazon.com for this one from JJC:

Professional Metal Lens Hood & 49mm Adapter Tube For Leica X1 and X2 Cameras

there may be others.

good luck

Well, I don´t have the instruments to measure accurately enough, but if it´s of any help, it is exactly the same thread at the one for the original lens shade for the Summarit 75 and 90 (old f/2.5 version). And a 49 mm accessory doesn´t fit in that thread, it is slightly bigger than 49 mm. I´d say it is 50 mm or so.

As I suspected (typical for manufacturers btw). Thanks so much!!

Current thread suggests that Leica didn't plan for the addition of filters. Given the retracting lens design, that isn't surprising. It is interesting to note that Leica changed its mind with the latest model in the X-range and incorporates a self-opening lens cap. That is very practical. I have used the JJC device for several years. It is a simple and effective solution but does not have the security against front damage if handled without due care and attention. Compromises.

Constantly refitting filters would be irritating to most users but I can see the benefit for occasional specialist filtering.
