Monochroms for Sale

It's interesting that the Forum has no Monochroms listed for sale. Are owners holding onto the MM for CCD sensor or other reasons despite the internet chatter about a new CMOS MM model on the horizon?

Personally I love mine just as it is. I've considering selling it mostly because I use most the color version and with a baby coming I'm having a hard time justifying having the MM that I don't shoot as much. The idea of a new model does not thrill me. This one it's such an outstanding piece of equipment.

If I sold it I'd have to stop working! It does just what I want. I don't know whether or not I'd want a new version without seeing some interesting differences – this one already makes excellent 14x21" prints.

I'm more likely to switch to the next mirrorless Sony with larger sensor. BW conversions from A7r files (with Leica & Zeiss lenses) pretty closely match MM files in IQ, and I'd like to have the same image quality and also be able to use LR/ACR color sliders to balance tones within images. But for the time being, MM seems best for FF BW – at least until the sensor corrodes.

Added a snide remark about sensors. Just couldn't help it.

It took me a year to decide to buy it and I have had it for only a month. I had read the rumors that a new one would be announced in a few months. So I figured that I would use it until I could get the new one and sell this one. Something funny happened...I am in love with this camera and the files it produces. Mine is not going anywhere...AMAZING Camera!

Sorry ..... it's a long term keeper.

Not sure that a CMOS 24mpx replacement is going to be enough of an improvement to make an upgrade worthwhile .... we will see ;)

And if it is it would be too much hard work to improve my photography to match it. The MM outperforms me already...:o

I didn't choose the M (240) over the M9 because of the files (although I think the M files are at least as good or better), but because it's a better built, quieter, more robust and flexible camera. The sensor woes just reinforced the issue.

I'll test any new MM if it offers the same improvements, but in this case I'll compare the b/w files to my M b/w conversions….no need to consider a new camera if my current one is as good for my needs….and does color. Unlike some here, I can get my brain into b/w mode; don't need my camera to get me there.

No right or wrong….just how I see it…so to speak.

I got a good deal on an MM with 7376 shutter actuations. Now that Leica have offered to change the sensor for free if it's corroded, I doubt the prices will drop that much.

I contacted someone on here from NL who was selling one, but they'd already sold it. Some people are selling the MM.

Not selling mine either, not for a M240 based monochrome at least. Sure it has its improvements but they are not dramatic. Wheras the M9 based models have their quirks, but they are almost neglible for my kind of work. It is also the most beautiful digital camera I have ever seen, particularly in silver finish.

The current MM is the only camera I've had which consistently produces amazing, almost addictive images. They are so crisp, natural, clean, and with so much depth -if processed carefully.

Not to mention the wonders it has done for my photography, letting go of color altogether for my personal work. The loss of the psychological safety net that color represents, (Ii could always change my mind") means that one really must concentrate on the image.

The monochrom is the only camera which have come with me every day for almost two years straight (and I take pictures for a living...!)

Black and white photography made me fall in love with photography, and I see no reason for an imminent divorce.
