M9 vs M240 problems

I recently made the mistake of trying the M240 and I am now contemplating to upgrade my M9 to a M240. When the M9 came out, I was following closely the forums and I was aware of the issues when I bought the M9. I did not for the M240 but definitely will have to go through the different threads to understand the M240 potential problems / limitations.

I was wondering, in general does the M240 have more issues than the M9 had at the time ?

Thanks.

Sandro

At the very beginning there was an issue with strap lugs popping out, but it only affected a small number and AFAIK those have been taken care of by now and I have not read of any reports of it happening lately. Otherwise, any issues with the M240 seem to be limited to very occasional sporadic defects in individual cameras. Although there were those who kept trying to say the M9 sensor cracks and spots were limited to a small number, we now know that is not the case. So far there are no similar widespread failures with the M240. Like all Leicas they cause severe damage to your bank account though :D

I moved from the M9 to the M(240) a few weeks ago and am very pleased.

I appreciate the quieter shutter, greater detail, and better ISO performance. I had a problem initially with auto ISO, but that was solved by upgrading the firmware and my new camera is now acting in the same fashion with regard to auto ISO as did my M8 and M9 before this.

Check out the posting here about the good points about the M240. You may be pleased after reading it.

That thread is here:

No.

M240 with the current firmware is a much better camera all round.

Apart from a few users with intermittent lock-ups which still are unexplained the camera has been very reliable to date.

The M240 has been mostly a very reliable camera for me and I use and appreciate the new features over the M9. If you use an EVF you'll get the very occasional lockup but that's really it. And even that's only very occasionally for me (usually when I'm not patient and start pushing too many buttons while the buffer is clearing with the EVF in place.

For me, I wish I had the M9 illuminated frame lines and there's a hard limit of 60 seconds on the type 240. But that's it.

Thank you everyone for your answers..

One other quick question, Is there a difference between the grey and the black one .. in terms of durability, etc. Of course it is often a matter of personal taste, but I am wondering if there are pros / cons for each one is any ?

Thanks again.

I upgraded and was one of the very few whose 240 lugs fell out resulting in damage to an expensive lens. Leica's (Mayfair London) response was impeccable - immediately and without question giving me a new 240 and repairing/servicing the lense free of charge swiftly. The features I like best are the ability to use an EVF - my ageing eyes find this very helpful focussing my Noctilux in low light, and I can use long Leica R lenses.

After I realized that my M9 had the CCD corrosion issue, I decided to take the upgrade offer... I have received the M-P today, battery is charging now ! Time to learn about this new camera !

Is Lightroom 6 already available through Leica ?

Well - I used three different M9s over the past five years and none ever gave me any trouble - no sensor crack, no SD card problems, nil. In contrast, my M-P (purchased in November) has been in Solms for repair since early February, with no fixed completion date yet. The problem is that, from time to time, the shutter button did not fire unless pressed quite hard or with a slight delay. Typically happened after a while of shooting; the most frustrating was the initial occurrence which happened in December, while I was shooting "street" in a major city market in East Africa, i.e. during a major trip that took a long time to plan and cost quite a bit of money. I still prefer the M240 over the M9 and acknowledge all the improvements - but listen Leica, I want my Eur 6,894 camera back, now, repaired and shooting when I press the shutter!!! It's been with you longer now than with me, since I bought it. Grrrrr!

240 still has the red line problem if a single pixel goes bad.  NOT acceptable for $8000 camera.

CCS vs CMOS color is bogus

Now there is  a slight ir bleed in some blacks

High iso improved.

Never go on a trip with one camera.
