I have no experience with workshops around you but DAG and Gerry Smith (Kindermann) have an excellent reputation. Asking them for a quote would do no harm IMHO.

thank you Ict !

It just hurts so much, all I wanted is to update my camera :( I should have just stayed with 02.014 for another seven years and be completely happy camper.

So I guess nobody else has ever resolved this issue ?

Good evening,

I made the same mistake today, without reading this Thread, did update today my M8 with SN, 3199xxx to FW version 2.024 and was suprised to see that when I take any picture the red light blinks long and nothing happens..

Then did find the older FW 2.014 and did go back to FW 2.014 and everything works again..

Will never upgrade my FW again.. unless there is a reason to do that..

Cheers

Martin

I have the simmiliar problem:

Yesterday I tried to upgrade my M8 to 2.024 but it told me failed. And then I try to upgrade again but it tells me the battery is too low for upgrade(which was 100% full).

and then I open my camera and it says the firmware is 2.024, but I can't take shot with it. The shutter just do not respond and makes no sound. I wonder if I can roll back to 2.014, but it seems my camera won't recognize the file.

Is there any resolution for this?  It just like a piece of iron and can do nothing now. I went to the Leica store they just suggest me to send it to germany WTF!?  HELP ME PLS.... :(  :(

Welcome to the forum.

You may wish to try this:

1/ Download "m8-2_014.upd" and "m8-2_024.upd" files here:

2/ Make sure your battery is completely charged. Choose another card and format it with SD Formatter. Copy the "m8-2_024.upd" file to it, switch the camera off, insert the card in it, switch the camera on and try to redo the firmware update. If the firmware update screen doesn't appear, press the shutter button and hold it down until you see it.

3/ If this does not work, format again the card with SD Formatter. Copy the "m8-2_014.upd" file to it, switch the camera off, insert the card in it, switch the camera on and try this earlier firmware update. Again if the firmware update screen doesn't appear, press the shutter button and hold it down until you see it.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice, but my shutter just simply does not work, not even a sound but i'm sure the hardware is fine. Is there other way to roll back?

Hey 169837498734

I have gone through this nightmare few months ago.

With my Leica m8.2 , while upgrading the firmware to 024.

The only solution I found after multiple tests, cards, wipes and whatever other solution I could think of was to call up Leica and tell them the firmware update has corrupted my camera.

The camera went to NJ Leica and was brought back to life free of charge. Came back with 024 firmware version but cleanly installed , with no issues.

So If I were you and were willing to part with your camera for few months, this sadly would be the only solution that I have found to remedy this firmware crisis.

Leica service people know about this bug and seem to be willingly wanna help to fix it.

good luck !

  • 1 month later...

I sent both my M8 cameras to Leica where they apparently got new sensors, took 8 months in Germany waiting on parts... Anyway, I was interested and surprised to see that both cameras still had firmware 2.014 when they came back from service...

Ciao a tutti gli utenti Leica.

Questo è il mio primo post sulla mia Leica M8.2 e il primo numero con essa. L'ho comprato su ebay nel settembre 2014 e ha 4.500 clic dell'otturatore. Ora mostra quasi 7mila e sembra ancora come nuovo. Grazie a tutti!

Excuse me, did you upload the new firmware to the camera via cable from your computer or with an SD card?

Hello to all Leica users.

This is my first post about my Leica M8.2 and the first issue with it. I've bought it on ebay in september 2014 and it has 4,500 shutter clicks. Now it shows almost 7 thousand and it still looks like new. 10 days ago I've decided to update the firmware to 2.024. The update was successful(now it shows firmware 2.024) and I am not completely sure that the problem comes from this, but now, when I try to make a picture, the red light starts blinking like it 'writes' to the sd card but nothing happens. Even when I switch off the camera the blinking continues and I have to take the battery out in order for the blinking to stop. Is there a way to reset the camera in some way, or does anybody have any advice. It's strange because everything else works fine - it can take pictures, you can enter any of the menus and submenus... I'll be grateful if someone can help. Thank you all!

Excuse me, did you upload the new firmware to the camera via cable from your computer or with an SD card?

I upgraded my early M8 to 2.024 in order to have possibility for camera to recognise new lens. After upgrade, the files are not written to SD card anymore. I tried different cards with no success. I will try to downgrade to 2.014, wrote personal mail to the colleague dg2mst, but wanted to ask, if somebody knows, if there will be solution from Leica for the bug in 2.024?.I did not find any info on leica.de site.

Thx.

Jaka
