A miller Posted December 24, 2014 Share #5 Posted December 24, 2014 very nice color shot, Steve. I see that you take the time to enjoy yourself in the evenings (or at least some evenings). I never thought about using Ektar in this type of light situation. Glad you shared.
sblitz Posted December 24, 2014 Author Share #6 Posted December 24, 2014 thanks to all. i prefer the color shot as well, but many are b&w purists .... Adam -- Down to one film camera and the Ektar was what was loaded. i had seen some interesting results on the forum with Ektar pushed two stops so I figured I would give it a try. Looking for something a bit less pastel that portra for the moment -- and I am not a Fuji fan. Liked the results, for now. Back with tri-x in the M-A for one roll

Back with tri-x in the M-A for one roll STeve - firstly, I hate to say this, but you need another film body! Second, I'd encourage you to give the Fuji Pro 400H another try. I just scanned in a batch and was really pleased. I'll share a few in the coming days and you can see for yourself. I agree 100% that portra wouldn't have been a good choice for that interior light. Neither would the Fuji, in this case.
StS Posted December 24, 2014 Share #9 Posted December 24, 2014 Both have their merits, the b/w has a 50s look, the colour one adds a slightly ironic psychedelic element to contrast the rather formal hat. Stefan
sblitz Posted December 24, 2014 Author Share #10 Posted December 24, 2014 Thanks all -- funny you should mention Obama, didn't notice it until I looked at the pictures (had my M9 with me at the time as well) and realized he was Obama with better ears! Adam -- It will be a while before I spend money on a second film camera. Was walking around with the M9, M6, and M4 and it was too much. Back down to M-A and M9, although the itch is always there. I like to shoot digital and film at the same time and I find it interesting how I end up liking the film shots better. More character? Old habits? Who knows. Just do me a favor and don't talk me into getting a second film camera
roguewave Posted December 24, 2014 Share #11 Posted December 24, 2014 Steve, I like both versions. Glad you are having fun!
A miller Posted December 24, 2014 Share #12 Posted December 24, 2014 Just do me a favor and don't talk me into getting a second film camera very funny, Steve. I fully understand and appreciate where you are coming from. I will be purging some gear myself in the coming weeks. But, for the record, I wasn't suggesting that you need an expensive second film body. You could get a M4-p for a few hundred bucks (ok maybe 500 or so). It is very useful to have at least two film options at any given time. I wasn't aware that you carry multiple bodies with you. I just pick one body and lens and go. I just don't trust myself with so much gear
