yaufei Posted December 16, 2014 Share #1  Posted December 16, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I remember doing some research before sending in on this forum and the price is about $200.  Now I got the quote for my 75lux, and the price is over $500, citing need to do more work. The lens is over 20 years old and back-focus a little on my M240 but otherwise works nice and smooth.  Necessary repair: repair focussing mount 6-bit coding for digital M optical adjustment of all parts  Dear Sir, Due to the low depth-of-feild conbined with the high image performance of the Leica-M lenses, small focussing errors become evident. Since the 6-bit coding is not sufficient in this case, it is imperative to calibrate the lens. Thank you for your kind understanding.  Should I proceed or is there somewhere else I can take it? Advertisement Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Hi yaufei, Take a look here Anyone sent a lens for 6-bit recently?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
DigitalHeMan Posted December 16, 2014 Share #2 Â Posted December 16, 2014 It's not clear from your profile where you are located, but there are plenty of recommended independent camera technicians who would be able to take a look for a lower price than Leica will quote. Check the list elsewhere on the forum.
Berlinman Posted December 16, 2014 Share #3  Posted December 16, 2014 I had the same with my Apo-Telyt. Complete renovation and 6-bit for 600€. Now I have a 75Lux with 6-bit at Solms for 250€ for adjusting the focus. The Telyt works like new - the Lux isn't back.
epand56 Posted December 18, 2014 Share #4 Â Posted December 18, 2014 I had a Summilux 35/1.4 Asph. and an Elamarit 90/2.8 coded by Will Van Manen Kamera, Service some years ago, at a very reasonable price. They did a very professional job and did very quick. The lenses are being read fine since by both my cameras, M8 and M240.
jaapv Posted December 18, 2014 Share #5 Â Posted December 18, 2014 I really am pleased with Leica CS in general. But I send this kind of work to Will van Manen.
A miller Posted December 18, 2014 Share #6 Â Posted December 18, 2014 I had a 75 lux CLA'd and 6-bit coded by Leica NJ for about $450. It wasn't focusing spot on with my MM before I sent it in and now it is (knock on wood) tack sharp (knock on wood).
yaufei Posted December 20, 2014 Author Share #7  Posted December 20, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thank you for the response. I bought this lens some time ago at a premium (about $3k) due to its fantastic condition and during testing everything is perfect except the focus. The seller assured me that this is normal due to its age and Leica will fix it for a fee.  Initially I relied on the LV/EVF but I just couldnt get used to this type of shooting and now decided to get it aligned. I have decided to go ahead with the service and hopefully like many of you here I will get it back nicely aligned and cleaned.  I recently acquired a 50lux as well, it is a fresh production in Oct 2014, but I cant help but notice that the marker does not align to 0.7m. Does this mean this lens will focus below its claimed MFD of 0.7m? Welcome, dear visitor! Jennifer Posted December 20, 2014 Share #8  Posted December 20, 2014 I recently got my my Summilux 75 back from Wetzlar.  It had been 6-bit coded, calibrated, cleaned and the focus ring adjusted to remove the slight play it had exhibited previously.  All now in perfect working order.  Total cost for the work was £345 inc. VAT ($540)
