A miller Posted December 14, 2014 Share #1  Posted December 14, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am reporting back with some interesting findings from last week's Brooklyn Nets game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, which as most know is the team that Lebron "King" James is currently playing for.  For kicks, I went with my M3, 135 Tele-Elmar and Ilford Delta 3200 film.  The level of excitement at the game was enhanced three-fold: LeBron James was in town, given this, the "royal" couple in the entertainment world, Jay-Z and Beyonce, were likely to attend, and most important, Prince William and Kate Middleton were widely expected to attend, although nobody knew where they were going to be sit or when they would arrive.  I'll break this thread up into three parts:  First, the action on the court: Welcome, dear visitor! It was just a couple of seconds after William and Kate were sighted coming onto the court. EVERYONE stood up and got out their smartphones. NOBODY focused their attention on the game (including on "King" James, who was on the court at the time playing), which was in play. It was quite an interesting moment as the couple walked toward their seats, which were courtside.   Here is the Royal couple comfortably seated and seemingly enjoying the game  Last one...  In my next post I will compare the results of these shots with shots I took from my MM last year with this same lens.
 Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members!            Second, a sighting of Beyonce and Jay-Z, walking across the court at a time-out after visiting with the real Royal couple.   Last, but certainly not least, a few of the real Royal couple.  This is perhaps my favorite shot of the night. Advertisement Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 Hi A miller, Take a look here Some "royal" sightings at last week's Brooklyn Nets game (plus film vs digital). I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
A miller Posted December 14, 2014 Author Share #2  Posted December 14, 2014 As I starting viewing the results of the scans that I made from the film shots I just posted above, I thought, "wow, what lovely yet chunky grain." And then I went back to the shots that I took with the same lens and same exposure settings last year with my MM and thought, "wow, what clean, crisp and clear shots."  I thought I would experiment and deliberately add a healthy dose of grain to a couple of the shots from the MM (just added the grain in LR, nothing fancy such as using a film profile in SEP). Then I looked and thought, "wow, these look very similar to the film shots I took last week!!"  Here are the two examples. Would love your reactions: First shot Welcome, dear visitor! A miller Posted December 14, 2014 Author Share #4 Â Posted December 14, 2014 Thanks, Stuart. I could have used your zoom for some of the shooting of the various "Royalty"
allamande Posted December 15, 2014 Share #5 Â Posted December 15, 2014 Very nice set! Love the film work. And, your experiment is quite interesting too. As far as I can tell, once you add grain to MM images, we are back where we started from: film! I agree with you that the images from MM look clinically clean and I much prefer this look (that you have with your images from last year). Â Much enjoyed seeing these. A miller Posted December 15, 2014 Author Share #6 Â Posted December 15, 2014 Many thanks,, Ece. what the little controlled experiment demonstrated to me is the versatility of the MM. The MM files started out with a super clean look and they were at 2500 iso. The fact that they can be processed to look very strikingly similar to a super high iso film is quite impressive. Based on my experience, this versatility carries through in print output. Â All the best, Adam
Hank Taylor Posted December 15, 2014 Share #7 Â Posted December 15, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Adam interesting comparison but since we are use to shooting digital and especially sport action I'm glad I switched. Good series enjoyed. Hank
A miller Posted December 15, 2014 Author Share #8 Â Posted December 15, 2014 Thanks, Hank. I am glad (and in a way jealous) that you know what you like better
