Advertisement Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 Hi beekan, Take a look here leitz wetzlar summilux R 80mm f1.4. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
k_g_wolf ✝ Posted December 12, 2014 Share #2 Posted December 12, 2014 To judge from the photographs, the lens looks terrific and it should still be in good working order. You will be very pleased with the results. I use mine fully open very often and can´t say it´s soft. Sharpness is increasing when stopped down, of course, but you are missing what the lens delivers at 1.4. To exploit the lens fully, focus carefully and take your time for your photograph. BTW, welcome to the LEICA forum! Regards, GEORG

topoxforddoc Posted December 12, 2014 Share #10 Posted December 12, 2014 Beekan, Don't worry, it's one of the best lenses ever made for portraits. It is a classic Dr Mandler design, which some regard as the Noctilux of the R series line. It has beautiful soft OOF rendering, especially when shot with a large aperture. Remember that it has a small acceptable DoF, when shot wide open, so your focussing as to be spot on. Get it right though arm the results will be magical. rickp13 Posted December 12, 2014 Share #16 Posted December 12, 2014 welcome to the ''club'', beekan. i also had a 75 summilux on leica m for years, but now have a summilux 80 on my A7R and enjoy it just as much as the m lens. have you tried to search for the 80 summilux on flickr? you will certainly find hundreds of photos to choose from. the example below was taken at f1.4 or maximum f2 this wednesday morning. maybe it shows some of the smoothness of this lens, the rich colors, the sharpness even wide open. enjoy your new lens, and share some of your portraits when you're ready. greetings from hamburg rick Welcome, dear visitor! sc_rufctr Posted December 15, 2014 Share #18 Posted December 15, 2014 (edited) I love mine but I don't use it as much as I should. It's a great lens and has a real solid feel to it. I got mine at a good price so it will stay in my collection indefinitely. A recent shot at the beach. This photo doesn't do the lens justice. I had to shrink it so I could upload it here. JohnFM Posted December 16, 2014 Share #19 Posted December 16, 2014 The 80/1.4 was my first Leica lens, along with an R6. I appreciated its many good qualities (including smoothness and bokeh) but found my sample to be quite soft at 1.4. I sold it and purchased the 100/2.0 APO/Macro, whose performance is legendary. Nonetheless, I miss the 80, preferring the focal length and the bright viewfinder with through the lens focusing.
H.Beatzel Posted December 22, 2014 Share #20 Posted December 22, 2014 Hi, I own a Summilux-R 1:1,4 80 mm. It is one of my favourite lenses and it's one of the best lenses ever made for portraits. You definitely cannot go wrong with this buy, but nevertheless the lens on the picture looks a little bit worn.
