Hi folks, guess this might be a question asked before but as the title says "SDHC card for M8?" I am not looking for the biggest or fastest, just a reliable trouble free and easily obtainable card here in the UK. I understand some cards have been known to give trouble in the past although maybe this has been overstated?

Thanks in advance, Rob

May I ask what sizes, there seems to be advice not to go over 32GB, some say smaller, what would happen if you tried a 64GB card?

SDHC is limited to 32 GB max. 64 GB would require SDXC cards which are not supported. At about 10 MB per raw file 8 or 16 GB should be plenty.

8GB indeed. With 16GB cards, let alone 32 or 64, the total frame number will always exceed the maximum of the top LCD frame counter (999).
I don't mind the fact that the 16GB card greatly exceeds the frame counter digital display. I do not start to worry about card capacity until I am in two-digit territory. On the other side, it is nice to shoot and shoot and shoot on the 32 Gb card for so many frames as it will accomodate. I am unable to detect any performance (read/write) downside so my attitude is "why not?". The fewer cycles of swapping cards and downloading images the better. It used to be with the smaller cards that I was always full-up when it was least convenient. Now, I swap cards when it is convenient to me.

Thanks everyone, any particular speed to go for or avoid? Any dodgy makes? Cheers Rob

I'm very new to the M-digi world so take all the following as coming from a 'newbie' but FWIW I conducted a basic test with 4x and 10x cards in both 8Gb and 16Gb sizes and from two makers which showed no appreciable difference in write-speed across the whole set.

Where the 10x cards really scored, however, was transfer-rate to laptop.

Just my impression. Probably better to see if anyone more 'versed' has had a different experience.

Philip.

Mine works fine with Sandisk 16 & 32gb cards. No problems. They aren't terribly fast cards though (the 16 is 15Mb/s, I've just extracted it and checked). Despite there being a risk of data loss if the card fails, I find that large cards can take such a lot of photos that one card loaded into the camera will usually suffice for long enough for a decent trip away - so there is less risk of actually losing loose cards.....
