fotografr Posted December 5, 2014 Share #1  Posted December 5, 2014 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Duke came in and beat Wisconsin last night. These shots are people heading into the Kohl Center and the players being introduced before the game. The "action" shot was taken from my seat, but with only a 70mm lens I quickly decided it wasn't worth doing any more. I shot these mainly to see how the D Lux (109) handles high ISO situations.  DLux(109) Welcome, dear visitor! Hank Taylor Posted December 5, 2014 Share #2 Â Posted December 5, 2014 (edited) Brent your court shots are not bad from where you were sitting. I use to shoot my shots with an 85 f1.4 and then a D2h but usually I found myself on the floor off to the right or left of the basket. Like any sport, shooting, timming and anticipation make for a better chance in getting a winning shot. It also helps if you shoot at 8FPS:D Hank Edited December 5, 2014 by Hank Taylor

I used to shoot basketball for UPI with a manual focus Nikon F2AS and 85 f.2.0, with no motor drive. Like you, I sat under the basket and followed the ball. These days, it seems the emphasis is on getting everything so tight that a lot of the action is lost. I see people shooting basketball games here with 400mm f 4.0 lenses. And nobody just fires off a single shot. When the shutter goes down, it's for a burst of 10 to 20 frames. Crazy.

Echo63 Posted December 7, 2014 Share #6 Â Posted December 7, 2014 A great set of pictures. Â Fwiw - when i shoot basketball, its typically with a 1DX and 24-70 - sitting under the basket And bursts of two or three shots (at 12fps) Shooting 10-20 gives way to many files to go through after the game - although many of the other photographers do use longer bursts (except those who, like me, have to get pics through ASAP and cant waste time picking the best out of hundreds of pics)

I shot with a 5D MkIII, mostly with a 24-70 f/2.8L and sometimes with a 80-200 f/2.8L.
