The hood lock ring on my hood is very loose. It rotates too easily.

It's the part number 12589.

 

Is there a way to snug or tighten it up short of buying a new hood?

There is a ring that turns to lock the hood on.

The ring has two screws that protrude into to slots on the hood where there are two little wire springs.

 

It seems that the detents that hold the ring in place in lock mode are not at all snug and the ring turns freely.

 

The hood covers the alignment dot for the aperture ring and the ring that turns to lock has the alignment dot on it for the aperture ring. As it turns freely it is aggravating setting aperture when the dot keeps moving.

I hated that hood and sold the lens and bought the FLE version. It comes with a great little hood.

Any good Leica repairer should fix your problem in a timely manner i suspect but i have no significant experience with the 12589 hood that i don't like much. I prefer the 12588 hood which has no locking ring but it tends to detatch itself easily from the lens and it is more expensive than the 12589. The superb 12466 hood is even more expensive but it stands very close to the aperture ring and gets somewhat in the way when rotating the later.

Wow I guess I have owned all of these hoods but ended up selling them. I was using them on my 28.

The built-in hood of the 35/1.4 FLE is indeed handy but it is so small that it is almost useless as a shade IMHO.

I may fiddle with it a little and see if I can't fix it.

A little detent spring tweaking and it is much better.

This design needs work.
