williamgm Posted December 2, 2017 Share #21 Posted December 2, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) I asked Leica Mayfair (London) if they would send me the parts. They sent them to me free by first class post, or offered to fit them (free) if I wanted when I was next in London. This was really a precaution on my part, as I'd like to have them to hand should the part(s) in question fail.
Advertisement Posted December 2, 2017 Posted December 2, 2017 Hi williamgm, Take a look here Leica X1 battery lock slider kaput. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
kalifornier Posted December 4, 2017 Share #22 Posted December 4, 2017 Lucky you, I just got a message from Jeanine from Leica NJ she told they can’t sell those parts so I need to send my camera for repair... Sorry to hear that. The person who replied to me was Dave Elwell (dave.elwell@leicacamerausa.com) if you want to give it a try.
rivi1969 Posted December 5, 2017 Share #23 Posted December 5, 2017 Sorry to hear that. The person who replied to me was Dave Elwell (dave.elwell@leicacamerausa.com) if you want to give it a try. Just got another message from Jeanine saying they cannot give an estimate of the repair if I don't send the X1 first. My camera is in Mexico, I would have to pay maybe 50 dollars to ship it, and I can imagine a $300 bill which is half its current value. Not worth it to replace a 4mm plastic piece who might break in 4 weeks, really. I will send Dave an email and see if we can figure something out. Thanks for the info! gbealnz Posted December 5, 2017 Share #24 Posted December 5, 2017 I'm sure Leica will stand by you, they did with me, much to my astonishment. Gary
wda Posted December 5, 2017 Share #25 Posted December 5, 2017 I bought my X1 new when first launched and have not broken the battery door. My safety first precaution is to shut the door and not leave it open and vulnerable. Simple and only adds a few seconds.

I cannot speak for Leica's present policy, but on my X2 they fixed it within the week and for free.

My safety first precaution is to shut the door and not leave it open and vulnerable. Simple and only adds a few seconds. I don't see why anyone would take pictures with the battery door open and exposed. (Don't understand the recommendation)
rivi1969 Posted December 6, 2017 Share #28 Posted December 6, 2017 Ship it to Wetzlar. I cannot speak for Leica's present policy, but on my X2 they fixed it within the week and for free. Following Kalifornier suggestion, I contact Dave Elwell and reply a few hours later asking for my address so he can send me the piece free of charge. It is coming home already. I am very pleased with Leica service, they took the time to attend a minor request which I really appreciate. Only for that, I am going to buy a used T. gbealnz Posted December 9, 2017 Share #32 Posted December 9, 2017 My X1 suffered this, Leica fixed it, excellent service too. Hard to tell where you are but I'd reach out to Leica, either for a complete fix, or the required parts. Gary
rivi1969 Posted December 14, 2017 Share #33 Posted December 14, 2017 Yesterday I got my X1 slider, free from Leica NJ, now I need to find some local technician able to put it in place
kalifornier Posted December 18, 2017 Share #34 Posted December 18, 2017 I was able to put the slider and spring in the slot myself. It took about 10 mins and a few tries. You need tweezers to hold the slider/spring (put them together first), lower in the battery compartment as straight as possible, line up the two prongs against the two slots and gently push.
