The topic concerns shutter activations, which with the tools above works for the M9. Good question answered! However your answer concerns 'any particular camera' and number of images: many cameras will have more shutter activations than images made due to how the shutter has to behave in certain modes. Advertisement Posted July 30, 2019 Posted July 30, 2019 Hi pico, Take a look here M 9 shutter actuations. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Jean-Michel Posted July 30, 2019 Share #42 Posted July 30, 2019 Hi, You are correct, but the “LR method” can work as an approximation; it definitely does not give an exact count.
a.noctilux Posted July 30, 2019 Share #43 Posted July 30, 2019 (edited) We are talking about M9 here, we have many processes to know exactly the number of shutter counts, why bother with approximation ? Quote With other Leica M (coming after M9 with liveview or not), Jean-Michel your suggestion may be the only way to know approximatively the photos counts. Ko.Fe. Posted July 31, 2019 Share #44 Posted July 31, 2019 My LR count was reset with new sensor. Why not just read the first page where it is described how to call this number directly from camera. It works.
Nick_S Posted July 31, 2019 Share #45 Posted July 31, 2019 (edited) Thanks to Adan and others for the EXIF field information, which I extracted using RawTherapee from the ImageUniqueID field of a recent JPEG file. It gave me a nice excuse to dig out my old HP28S calculator and use the binary integer mode. I entered the final digits 169c as a hexadecimal integer #169Ch in DEC mode and it returned #5788d. That is 5788 shutter actuations, which suggests a long life ahead for my camera's shutter. Edited July 31, 2019 by Nick_S
Ko.Fe. Posted August 2, 2019 Share #46 Posted August 2, 2019 Ugh... it took me 30 seconds to open first page, scroll down, turn M-E and press few buttons to see exact number of exposures provided by camera. 30 seconds in total. 1

Each time that we push LV button, the shutter blinds open up, so can (could ? ) this be counted as shutter actuation (or not ?). Anyway, since M240, the EXIF data can not tell the shutter counts, or not as simple as before. As an example from my M240 EXIF, how to understand this, the following pic has another set of numbering, Image Unique ID {0xA420} = 00000000000000000000000000465292

You get a shutter actuation every time live view is turned off or on even though an image is not captured.
