You might try reading SR's review for the answer...

Secondly, the term "sharp" in optics is a subjective one and not quantifiable. Resolution? Microcontrast? Macrocontrast? etc...

If we get into such assessments I already had one. In the shots I took with it it had a better clarity and transparency. IMO, not in numbers....

The problem that Sean Reid points out is that even the 35mm FLE is not entirely free from focus shift, while the Zeiss lens is. This became very apparent in his studio shots, but in practice they may be less noticeable. This was not the only area where Zeiss demonstrated superiority, though.

 

I don`t want to undermine Seans business by replicating his report, but his final words are that "The Distagon is an exceptional lens - one of the best I`ve yet tested from Zeiss or any other maker."
